Reading Surgery [Weekly Short-Short Note] (455 characters)
I had to be hospitalized.
I had been tossed about by the rough waves of the world and was completely exhausted.
When I consulted a mental clinic, they referred me to a good hospital.
"You will need to undergo surgery."
The attending physician said so.
Are they going to tinker with my brain or something?
"It is called reading surgery. Based on our counseling, we will select books that suit you, and you will read them. You don't need to write any book reports. However, you must finish reading them."
I hadn't read a book in a long time.
The "reading surgery" began immediately.
I started reading the stack of books.
At first, my reading speed was slow, but it gradually became faster.
While I was reading, it felt as if I had entered the world of the books.
After continuing this for several weeks, I felt like my mind had changed, though I couldn't quite explain how.
The doctor said,
"How is it? Reading books is nice, isn't it? Well, I actually started this as a form of therapy to break the current trend of fewer people reading books."
So that was the motive.
But if it makes my mind feel better, the world of printed words isn't so bad.
On my way home after being discharged, I bought one book that caught my eye by its title and went home.
