The Best Way to Improve Is to Teach Others!
Hello, I'm Shin Kondo.
I want to improve more,
I want to acquire skills,
I want to get my side hustle on track.
When you think like that,
you might read books, watch YouTube, or go to seminars...
Many people try various methods, right?
But actually,
there is a way to improve your skills
the fastest and most reliably. It is.
To put it bluntly...
"Teaching others"
This is seriously the best.
Teaching = The ultimate training method
"Teaching deepens your own understanding"
Have you ever heard that?
This isn't just a matter of feeling;
there is actually a solid basis for it.
For example, in a learning theory called
the "Learning Pyramid"
it is said that by teaching others,
your retention rate reaches a whopping 90%.
Compared to just reading, listening, or practicing,
teaching leaves a much stronger impression.
In other words, your skills will be polished rapidly.
What I realized when I tried teaching myself
Actually, I was on the "learning side" at first too.
When I started my side hustle, I was just inputting information,
but I didn't feel like I was making progress.
"Do I really understand this?"
I felt anxious every day.
And then, one day, it just hit me.
I thought, 'Let me try talking to someone about this.'
When I started sharing my output on social media with the 'intention of teaching someone,' all sorts of things happened.
Various things happened.
・The parts I didn't fully understand became crystal clear.
・To explain things to others, I had to organize my thoughts properly.
・Being asked questions broadened my perspective.
Wow, I was surprised.
Even though I only 'intended' to teach,
I was the one learning the most.
'Teaching' is the highest level of output.
People often say,
'Output is more important than input.'
But even among types of output, 'teaching others' is at a very high level.
The reason is that it's not just about putting things into words; it requires:
・Explaining things clearly
・Adjusting to the other person's level of understanding
・Using analogies to explain
All of these skills are required.
But this is exactly what boosts your skills significantly.
'I'm not at a level where I can teach yet' is irrelevant.
What often comes up here is,
'No, I'm still a beginner...'
'It's presumptuous of me to teach...'
I hear that.
I get it, I really do. But you know, that's actually an opportunity.
Because, only those close to being a beginner
can understand how a beginner feels. That's why.
The more of a pro you become,
the easier it is to think, 'Why don't you get it?', but
you are someone who 'didn't understand until just recently'.
Those realistic stumbling blocks
are incredibly helpful to those just starting out.
So, it's okay to start teaching from today!
It doesn't have to be perfect.
In fact, because you are 'the you who is just starting to understand',
there are things only you can convey.
For example,
・Share what you've learned on social media
・Try explaining it a little to someone close to you
・Try summarizing it in a blog or Note
All of these are perfectly valid forms of 'teaching'.
And since that is what will
grow your skills the most, it's killing two birds with one stone.
Summary: The person who teaches is the one who improves the most
If you want to improve more and succeed,
don't just study,
try moving to the 'teaching side'.
By teaching, your own understanding deepens,
and you gain various skills like the ability to organize, communicate, and empathize.
As your skills grow in that way,
you will naturally gain confidence,
and new opportunities will open up.
Starting today,
'Try conveying what you have learned to someone else'.
Let's start with this one step.
By you teaching someone else,
the person who benefits the most might just be you.
