The Water Surface Reflecting You
During the Clubhouse 'Mimi-Biji' program,
Toyoko Shimotsuma gave us a prompt:
'Let's each appreciate Matsuo Basho's haiku, "The old pond, a frog jumps in, the sound of water," and output what we think about it.' So, here is my output.
"The old pond, a frog jumps in, the sound of water."
When I read this poem, a sense of "stillness" first spreads through my chest.
It feels as if nothing is happening,
yet it is a moment where the whole world seems to be breathing.
But lately, I've been thinking.
That frog didn't just jump into the pond.
Surely, it must have been looking at its own reflection on the water's surface.
Just like looking at yourself reflected in a smartphone camera.
On that water surface, I saw my own face and the shadow of "you" that overlaps somewhere in my heart.
I am inside you,
and you are inside me.
The moment I realized that,
I thought, "Alright, I can do this!"
I felt something "splash" deep inside my chest.
Touching an invisible courage,
the stillness within me creates ripples.
And then, I suddenly come to my senses.
Ah, maybe I'm actually doing pretty well right now.
And before I knew it, the frog was in the water.
The frog is actually pretty impressive!!
Is the frog also looking for love!? Who knows.
