March 19th is apparently 'Music Day'. I didn't know, but it's a happy day somehow
This morning, when I opened 365 Days of Classical Music, One Song a Day, it said that today, March 19th, is 'Music Day'.
Music Day?
I had never heard of it, so I was a little curious and looked it up.
🎵 A pun on 'Myu (3) jik (19)'
When I looked it up, it seems this day was established in 1991 by an organization called the Japan Musicians Union.
A pun on 'Myu (3) jik (19)'.
I see.
🎵 From musicians to the audience
The union's website stated the following purpose:
To advocate for the wonder and joy of music from the perspective of musicians and share it with the audience
It's very simple, but I thought it was a lovely sentiment.
Music is something where there are performers, there are listeners, and something is born between them, isn't it?
🎵 In honor of 3/19
By the way, today's selection in this book was quite interesting.
March 19th. In other words,
319.
In honor of that, the piece chosen was the third movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 33 in B-flat major, K. 319.
Work number '319'. It's a little bit of a play on numbers.
This piece is sometimes called Mozart's 'Pastoral Symphony'.
The third movement is very light and feels somewhat bright and open.
As I listened to it, I felt as if the pastoral scenery of the Salzburg countryside suddenly came to mind.
…Well, I've never actually been to Salzburg (laughs).
It's what you'd call a European pastoral landscape. Does that convey it?
🎵 Reasons to listen to music
As for me, I've been listening to classical music almost every day lately.
There are various reasons.
Because it calms my heart.
Because I can encounter new songs.
Because I can enjoy the differences in performances.
But in the end,
It's just because I love music.
That might be all there is to it.
🎵 A little bit of music today
March 19th, Music Day.
You don't have to do anything special, but just listening to music a little more attentively than usual—I feel like that alone brings me a bit closer to the meaning of this day.
No Music, No Life 🎶
