I want to respect my child's interests... but my own personal feelings keep getting in the way
Hello, this is Osakana 🐠
What do your children do on their days off ?
My daughter, when I notice, is watching YouTube endlessly.
I've always thought this is a bad habit, so I try going out or playing at home with her, but the parent's concentration doesn't last either 😇
Even so, after seeing Yuri-san's article I thought, as expected, I want to reduce YouTube time a little more and gave it some thought. (Sorry for sharing, Yuri-san 🙏)
So, one of the things I thought of was learning workbooks.
I looked for some at a nearby bookstore and had my daughter choose the ones she wanted to try.

My daughter loves mazes.
(Sometimes, for the difficult ones, she just draws lines through the walls though)
Among the many workbooks lined up, it seemed the most play-oriented, and honestly, I thought it was far from actual learning.
For now, the goal was supposed to be getting her away from videos even a little, but my parental ulterior motives came out, and I thought
it would be nice if it also made her smarter .
I'm a bit narrow-minded, so although I didn't say it out loud, I was thinking, wouldn't Japanese or math workbooks be better?
However, since they are categorized as learning workbooks, I thought mazes must be good for the brain in some way and looked it up.
Improves thinking and judgment skills
Improves spatial awareness
Improves concentration
Improves pen control
Improves reasoning skills
Builds confidence
Develops a habit of sitting at a desk
Wait, are mazes that good!?
Well, okay then, I guess it's fine (I'm such a pushover mom)
I am someone whodidn't study much when I was a student. That is exactly why I understand
the importance of studying.
Being told by others to do somethingwas a feeling that made my younger self tend to avoid studying, so,
I want to cherish my daughter'sspontaneous feeling of 'that looks interesting, I want to try it'.
I'm sure that from time to time,a parent's ulterior motiveswill also emerge, so this was a story from my day off about how I hope to raise my child while weighing those two things and constantly wavering.
May you, who read this far today, have the best Friday night 🫶🏻✨🍀
