Application Guidelines
◾️Application Deadline: December 22, 2024
◾️Course Period: January - June 2025 (+ article production)
◾️Location: Online (Zoom)
◾️Tuition: 77,000 yen (First-time limited price. *Minimum of 6 students required to open)
◾️Eligibility:
・Ages 22 to 45, aspiring to be art writers
(Those with art writing experience are also welcome)
・People with the determination to engage with the target region long-term and continue writing
・Experience in writing articles (regardless of format or content)
・Needless to say, you must love writing and love art
◾️Post-graduation Support:
・Job referrals in art media + support for building a portfolio
・Networking support with local art professionals
・We are also considering launching a media outlet specializing in local art information,
where you would be invited to write.

・Art Writing: Manabu Miki (Writer/Art Critic | Japan Art Critics Association)
・Journalism: Toshiyuki Tanaka (The Yomiuri Shimbun)
・Editing: Taku Sakurai (Editor | Noho-bon)
・Curation: Takuya Tsutsumi (Independent Curator | Yamanami Suplex)
・Art Management: Tomoko Noda (Art Manager | Twelve Inc.)

◾️School Features
・Learn the mindset to become a long-term regional supporter, specializing in the art and culture of the target region.
・Learn to write in a way that is based on facts and history, is not self-righteous, and is empathetic to others.
・Grasp the writing required for contemporary art by absorbing the voices of the subjects being written about.

Introduction
In recent years, local art has increasingly been discussed within the context of events, particularly art festivals. While initiatives for sustainable engagement between art and regions experimentally verify the potential of art and expand the possibilities for regions, I feel that media coverage has become somewhat consumptive, emphasizing only the aspects of 'tourism art'.
To accurately convey sustainable and alternative regional initiatives, we need to rethink the role of media. However, the current reality is that media based in large metropolitan areas lack the budget, time, and personnel to conduct detailed research in various regions, leaving them unable to provide proper follow-up. Ideally, it is important for art media rooted in the region to emerge, but I believe that if there is even one art writer rooted in a region, it will enable both major media and local media to follow up on information.
Therefore, our immediate goal is to place one local art writer in each of the 47 prefectures, and with that, we are launching this project.
