Living like you're traveling isn't about where you go
When I say, "I want to live like I'm traveling," I'm often misunderstood.
People think it means opening a laptop in a cafe and traveling the world.
Well, that's not wrong, but it's not the whole story.
I couldn't explain it well, thinking that there was more to it than that.
I feel like I've finally been able to put it into words, so I'll write it down.
Two wishes that seemed to contradict each other
Two feelings have always been inside me.
One is the desire to live lightly and freely wherever I go.
I've always thought about how great it would be to work while traveling the world.
The other is the desire to live with someone.
There was a time when I was strongly conscious of marriage.
However, even if I got married, I had a strong desire to stay connected to society, and I always felt that I didn't want to be a burden on anyone.
That's why I couldn't imagine myself just staying at home.
The part of me that wants to move around freely and the part of me that wants to live with someone.
At first glance, they seemed to contradict each other.
But when I think about it carefully, there was something common to both.
No matter where I am or how I live,
I want to stay connected to society and live by my own choices without being restricted.
That was the feeling at my core.
I quit a job I drifted into without thinking about the future
From my late teens to my mid-twenties, I never really knew what I wanted to do.
Without knowing what I wanted to do, I realized there was a time when I was doing a job that didn't suit me. there.
It was corporate sales, and I even did cold calling.
The day felt demonically long.
I didn't even know why I existed anymore.
I didn't take that job because I decided to; it was because of my boss's words, "I think you can do it." It was the assumption that this was the only path for me to grow.
I thought I had decided for myself, but I was prioritizing meeting other people's expectations.
Without thinking seriously about my own life, I ended up just drifting along.
"This isn't what I want to do."
"This isn't the real me."
As those inner voices grew stronger and clearer, I quit as if running away, without thinking about what would happen next.
I decided only to go back to school to study English, which I loved, and became a working student.
I also considered the path of becoming an English teacher. But while studying, I realized something.
"I want to live freely, so why am I putting myself in an environment bound by rules?"
"I wanted a job where I could teach something, but why does it have to be English?"
When such thoughts crossed my mind and I tried to realistically imagine the future I was about to live,
"It doesn't look fun"
"It doesn't excite me"
"Something feels off"
I realized that I was feeling that way.
In the future I imagined, there were no colleagues working happily, nor was there a smiling version of myself.
One day, when I opened my laptop at the airport
I think it was a while after I started my current job.
I was on a business trip or traveling somewhere.
I opened my laptop at the airport and was working.
In that moment, the image of my ideal way of working became clear.
"Ah, this is it."
As long as I have the internet and a PC, I can work anywhere.
I can be in a place I love, connect with someone, and make things happen.
The image of "how I want to be" that had always been in my headfelt like it finally clicked into place at that moment.
What I saw while continuing to move
From then until now, as I have taken on challenges, interacted with people, and kept moving, my own outline has gradually become clearer.
Web design x Education x Community.
Teaching web skills to others.
Supporting people in relearning and taking on challenges that change their lives.
Creating a space where people can gather and interact.
What is the core of my work? Who am I?
While lost, I believed that "there must be something for me," and what I saw while continuing to move forward.
Being involved in the process of people moving toward what they want to do and becoming able to do it.
Being my natural selfandsolving the problems of those in need.
I felt like it finally all connected into one.
My own definition of "living like you're traveling"
So for me, "living like you're traveling" has two meanings.
One is literally working while traveling with just a PC.
Working in a place I love, at a time I love, with people I love, doing things I love.
But there is one more thing that I value just as much.
To keep changing flexibly and moving in the direction you believe in.To never stop thinking. To never become rigid. To never stop moving.
I believe that in travel, there are many things you don't know until you actually go.
Even if you look at a map, it's completely different when you actually walk it.
Things often don't go as planned. But that is also the fun of traveling.
I believe life and the way we work are surely the same.
Living while staying close to those in need with what you can do at that moment.
It's not about deciding on the right answer before you move, but finding the right answer while you are moving.
There are things you cannot see if you just stop and think.
That is what I currently think "living like a journey" means as an attitude.
To you, who are reading this:
I think it's okay not to know yet if the place you are in now is the right one.
I, too, have been swept away. I have run away. There were times when I stopped, and times when I felt bitter.
Even so, by continuing to face myself and thinking "there must be something for me," I have developed what I can call my own core.
Because there are more things you only understand after you try moving.
First, cherish the voice of your own heart.
And then, try moving by your own will.
I believe that is the first step to "living like a journey."
・I don't know how I should move
・I don't know my own true feelings
・I don't know what the right answer is
If you resonate with these feelings even a little, I would be happy if you could just press the like button.
Here is the story of how I, who worked at the same company for 17 years, decided to set my life in motion.
Here is what I value when I interact with people.
I also write about what I learned after trying to move.
