The 'breathing room' in solo parenting is the bathroom and a spray.
While facing a newborn baby every day,
thankfully, there's a hunger timer that goes off about every 3 hours,
days when they won't stop crying no matter what I do between 4 PM and 11 PM,
days when I know why they're crying, and days when I'm stuck with a newborn
and have absolutely no idea why.
When the first 'day they won't stop crying no matter what' arrived,
I kept apologizing to the baby and cried along with them.
I'm sorry I'm a mom who can't understand you.
But I'm already giving it my all, I really am.
When I told a friend,
'The baby must have gotten a lot of exercise!'
After hearing that, I stopped feeling sad when the baby cried.
The days just go by as a matter of course, but
I had almost no 'time for myself.' Haha.
The 'me time' I started with at first
was really trivial.
- A quick spritz of aroma spray while making the bed in the morning.
- A quick spritz in the bathroom during the moment I was alone.
- Turning on the porch light and a quick spritz before my husband gets home!
- A quick spritz on my clothes! (Febreze) Haha.
Some might think, 'Wait, is that really time for yourself?'
But for me, it was proper 'time for myself.'
About a month later,
I had started to be able to find just a little bit of 'breathing room.'
Maybe I got better at managing my time,
or maybe I just learned how to switch my mood.
But I felt like I could breathe a little easier.
Just inhaling the scent for a few seconds,
and being able to think, 'Oh, I might have calmed down a bit,' made all the difference.
Now I have a little more room in my heart,
and I use different scents for the morning and night depending on my mood,
but I think that 'spritz in the bathroom' back then was my beginning. ♪
Scent makes a mom's heart feel suddenly lighter.
It makes me realize that it's okay to create 'breathing room' for myself.
To all the moms out there raising children,
where did you find your 'breathing room' today?
If there are any moms who have started 'scented parenting' like me,
I would love it if you could tell me
what scents you use and when.
【A spritz in the bathroom!】
A scent that clears your mind and makes you think, 'Okay, I can do this again.'
・Peppermint: 1 drop
・Sweet Orange: 2 drops
・Lavender: 1 drop
How to make the spray:
5ml anhydrous ethanol + 4 drops of essential oil total → Mix well, then add 45ml of purified water (50ml total)
*I've taken care to ensure these are safe to use near babies, but please just be careful not to spray them directly on the baby!
Using aroma (essential oils) on babies is generally recommended from 3 months of age!
