Celebrating Cat Day 2/22 (Tried using granulating Gansai)
Cat Day in Japan
Meow meow meow, may all cats be happy!! 😸
The header image was drawn using Gansai Tambi Granulating Colors (Kuretake), a type of Gansai paint that creates a fantastical effect through color separation.
When you paint with one color, it separates into different hues.
I suddenly became interested in these paints a few days ago and clicked to buy them. I've just started making color swatches and doing test drawings, so I haven't even spent five hours on them yet, but if I'm going to test them, it has to be for Cat Day, right?

I'm getting a bit more used to it, and I made a tabby-cat style effect with the separation.
I also tried drawing the face.
I borrowed and referenced photos from a 'Cat-a-Day Calendar'.
The feeling of using them isn't bad. It's interesting.
You don't know how it will separate until it dries. That's what's interesting about it. You can leave it for a bit until it dries, then add more to it to create more separation.
I bought a set of regular Gansai when I dabbled in Japanese painting a while ago, but I quickly switched to Suihi pigments and still have the regular Gansai mostly unused.
I'm thinking about trying to mix those in.
The nice thing about Gansai is that you can play with it immediately using water.
It's odorless, silent, and cleans up with water, which is very easy.
I find myself comparing it to alcohol ink. The color payoff is different, but that's fine in its own way.
I'll continue to test the differences based on the paper used, how to handle the base coat, and the water content.
Hehe♪ Testing art supplies is fun ☺️
I'll draw cats again, so HAPPY Cat Day!
