When you've been dating someone for a long time, there's one thing you'll want to try at least once: matching items.

Whether it's shoes or clothes... having that little bit of a couple's look gives you a special feeling, doesn't it?

My girlfriend and I love sports brands, and we're especially big fans of Nike. The place we went to the other day was "NIKE by you", which opened in Grand Green Umeda.

It's the only place in the Kansai region where you can create your own custom items!

The ordeal starts with getting a numbered ticket...

"NIKE BY YOU" is a dream-like service where you can choose your own shoes, clothes, caps, etc., and attach patches to create a one-of-a-kind original item in the world.

However, it's so popular that advance reservations are not possible. Numbered tickets are only distributed on the morning of the day.

We went on a holiday in May. The store opens at 11:00 AM, but there was already a long line when we arrived at 10:20 AM!

We managed to get a ticket, but we were assigned a time in the 4:00 PM hour. If we had been even 10 minutes late, we might not have made it...

First, choose your item

Once you get your numbered ticket, you decide on the item you want to customize first. Be careful, as popular items run out quickly.

We chose a "Nike white T-shirt".

When we returned to the store in the 4:00 PM hour, we were guided to a workstation. Each session is about 45 minutes, with a maximum of 4 groups. Since it runs with 4 groups of 2 people, it's a very precious slot.

Choosing patches and 20 minutes of decision-making

Customization is a style where you think about the layout while choosing from the patches lined up on the table.

However, popular patches sell out quickly. If you go late, your choices will be limited.

Realizing that "it gets expensive if you get carried away and stick too many on!", we set a rule of "up to 5".

Still, we only had 20 minutes to think about the design.
I was so indecisive that I kept asking my girlfriend, "Is this okay?", but she was so focused that she completely ignored me (lol).

That moment itself became a fun memory.

After designing, it was finished in about 30 minutes. The total cost, including the T-shirt, was about 9,500 yen.

It's a bit pricey for a single T-shirt, but "one of a kind in the world," "matching with my girlfriend," and "the experience of making it together"—when you have these three things, the sense of satisfaction was priceless.

By the way, it's essential to download the NIKE app in advance, so it's safer to prepare before you go.

Advice for those going in the future

We went in May 2025, so the situation might have changed by now.

Still, what I can say is that you "should line up at least 30 minutes before opening." If you're even a little late, there's a possibility you won't be able to get a numbered ticket.

If you're going on a date, I recommend planning your day with the intention of enjoying the "making experience" for half a day!
