[44/3650] Designing the 'White Space'.
Day 44 of the series.
The harder we try to write, the more we tend to fill the screen with words. We want to convey every last drop of our thoughts, we don't want to be misunderstood, and we want people to feel the value. That enthusiasm sometimes robs the reader of a 'place to catch their breath'.
Today, I want to talk about the eloquent blank space created by daring to 'not write'.
Words that are too talkative, words that are silent
In the long journey of ten years, there is no need to explain every single emotion with words.
Rather, by not saying too much, space is created between the lines for the reader's imagination to enter.
Instead of writing 'I am sad,' simply record the sound of the rain.
Instead of writing 'I made a decision,' describe tightening the laces of a newly purchased pair of shoes.
By intentionally lowering the density of information in this way, words transcend being mere symbols and become a 'landscape.' White space is not laziness; it is proof of 'trust' in the reader. I look for a place to put down my pen, trusting that you will fill this blank space with your own experiences and emotions.
3,650 uneven maps
This series does not aim to be a perfect encyclopedia.
Rather, I want it to be like an unfinished map where dots are scattered here and there.
Some days I talk at length, and other days I finish in just a few lines.
The 'white space' created by that uneven rhythm tells the reality of a ten-year span. Every day does not need to be 100% dense. In fact, it is precisely because there are days that are sparse and full of gaps that the dense words that appear from time to time shine like jewels.
Day 44, a quiet subtraction
Today, I dared to cut one episode I had intended to write.
I feel a pleasant breeze blowing through the space I carved out.
There are things we can understand deeply precisely because we do not talk about everything.
Having learned this 'design of white space,' I have a feeling that the 3,650-day journey will evolve into something lighter and freer.
Is there 'white space' in your life?
A calendar filled with appointments, a smartphone with non-stop notifications.
By daring to create 'time to do nothing' or 'moments of not answering,' there may be new emotions that flow in.
Tomorrow is day 45.
'Surrendering to 'gravity'.'
About the courage to stop resisting and honestly accept where you are right now.
See you tomorrow.
