*Is There Really a Santa Claus?
#LetterFromSanta Edition (Especially for students and those raising children)
I'm using the Hiroshima dialect to add a sense of realism m(__)m
This is a memory of my children on Christmas Eve.
My eldest son had just started attending a massive elementary school with over 100 friends, suddenly moving from a cooperative nursery school (where he had 5 friends). It was the day before Christmas in his first year.
When he got home, he said a little sadly.
Taku: "I'm home! Mom. Is the Santa at our house actually Dad or Mom??"
Mom: "What's wrong? Did something happen??"
Taku: "Yeah... I told them that a letter from Santa comes to our house, and that presents are there when we wake up in the morning! And that I write letters to Santa too!! Then A-kun said, 'That's a lie! Your mom and dad are the ones buying the presents!!'"...(*_*) Sob...
Mom: "Hmm. So that's how it is at A-kun's house." I only said that.
After that, A-kun came over to play at our house.
A-kun: "Hey! There's no such thing as Santa!! Taku-kun is always telling lies!" he said with a smug look!
Mom: "Oh my! That's not a lie. So Santa doesn't come to your house, A-kun? I'll show you the letters! Just you wait."
I brought out and showed him several years' worth of letters from the Santa Claus Village in Finland!
A-kun was surprised (*_*) ...and hurried home.
Before long, A-kun's mother called me, and we talked about how to get letters from Santa.
The following year, A-kun sent a letter to Santa (enclosing international reply coupons) along with my children! It became a trend throughout the school, not just in the second grade lol
Of course, the preparation of the presents was... you know (laughs)
On the night of the 24th. Since we don't have a chimney at our house, the children came up with the clever idea of leaving a window on the second floor slightly open, writing a letter to Santa saying, "Thank you for your hard work!", and leaving Dad's whiskey and some water on the table.
On the morning of the 25th, they jumped out of bed early and let out shouts of joy as they opened the presents in the living room and near the tree. The letters from Santa continued until my second son was in the 6th grade.
I also read them picture books about Lapland in Northern Europe and stories about Trolls. I read Moomin stories to them too.
Enjoying annual events and rituals as children grow is the real thrill of raising kids.
It was a fun and happy time. It also helps with understanding Western culture, developing adult awareness, and building human relationships. Please don't focus too much on intellectual training; just! parents, please enjoy it too.
Please! Incorporate annual events into your life and enjoy them.
