What is True Love? (Video and Transcript)
Hello!
This is Kokoro Kyoko!
If someone asked you, 'Please explain what love is!', how would you answer?
When I looked it up online, it said:
1. A heart that loves and cherishes deeply.
2. (As an object of romantic love) A heart that yearns for a specific person.
…That's what came up, but it's abstract and hard to understand, isn't it?
I myself, having watched my family, my in-laws, and the women around me for many years—and this includes, of course, the 'brainwashing disguised as discipline' from my mother, as well as what is called 'societal trends and common sense'—
'A woman's love is to think of the other person more than oneself, to endure hardship and make efforts, and even to the point of self-sacrifice, to kindly and devotedly continue to take care of the other person!'
…I kept believing that, so of course, I desperately continued to put that into practice every day for nearly 50 years, even with my family, my in-laws, and the strangers around me.
But several years ago, while I was learning by watching various videos and social media online, I saw multiple creators sharing content that said, 'This is what true love is!'
'What I had believed for so many years was a huge mistake!'
I was finally able to realize that.
Of course, since we are all different, I cannot assert that what those multiple creators were saying is 'the absolute truth common to all people.'
But when I heard it, it 'clicked' for me, or rather, various experiences in my human relationships up to that point made sense, and I was able to be convinced from the bottom of my heart.
So, since then, I have always kept that in mind and used it as a 'benchmark for human relationships.'
The answer to 'What is true love?' that clicked for me is (image included):
'Always respecting, honoring, and being grateful to each other, and the desire to understand the feelings of the other person, which are different from one's own, and the wish to reach out to them.'
I think this applies not only to couples in love or married couples, but to all human relationships.
I believe it applies to parent-child and sibling relationships, friendships, relationships with people at work, and relationships with neighbors—it applies to all human relationships.
After I divorced my husband and cut ties with my family, I no longer had problems with my family, but because I didn't know this, I still continued to suffer in various workplace relationships.
The reason for that is that no matter how terrible the words and actions of the people around me were toward me, I treated everyone with the same kindness without discrimination.
The cause of that way of handling human relationships was that from childhood through my 20s, I was forbidden by my family and in-laws from having friends or socializing, so I was never able to build the 'foundation of relationship skills' through childhood friendships like normal people, which meant that 'my own ability to handle human relationships had not grown at all.'
Treating everyone with the same kindness regardless of what kind of people they are is an ability level of an elementary schooler, or rather, a toddler, isn't it?
However, ever since I learned this...
I have been able to calmly observe the words and actions of those around me toward me based on that standard. From the start, I began to categorize people based on whether or not they respect me, and I consciously started changing how I respond to each of them accordingly.
By doing so, I have been able to clearly draw a 'boundary' with people who are not compatible with me, and I have also become able to calmly handle various events in my daily relationships. Surprisingly, I have almost completely stopped worrying about human relationships.
I will say it one more time at the end.
What is true love?
It is always respecting, honoring, and being grateful to each other, as well as the desire to understand the feelings of the other person, which are different from one's own, and the wish to reach out to them.
If this resonates with you, keep it in mind at all times and use it as a criterion for judging human relationships, and your worries about relationships will disappear completely!
Thank you so much for watching again this time!
