Metaphorize unpleasant things immediately
How to make unpleasant things not so unpleasant.
It's thorough metaphorization of the subject! Or using metaphors.
I'm from the super-glacial generation that has been hopping from one black company to another since graduating from university, but the cheerful bosses who survived unreasonable environments and climbed the ladder were all excellent at this ability.
If I've gained the ability to summon these people into my brain when things get tough, then maybe my dark days as a working adult had some meaning after all...
The following are my originals and some passed down directly from my bosses. Those bosses would surely laugh at these.
Hot and cold contrast bath
A modern version of 'fortune and misfortune are like a twisted rope'.
When there's a huge gap between the good state just before and the bad thing that just happened, I convince myself that I'm currently taking a hot and cold contrast bath. If I'm in a cold bath, I can think, well, it can't be helped, at least a little bit.
And while shivering, I say “Yeah, I’m really getting into the zone now.”or something like that.
It's a common thing in black companies, but the capacity to laugh off a tough situation often determines the hierarchy in the workplace.
The higher the position, the more they laugh at outrageous stories. Like, 'You're losing millions there, aren't you?'
But for someone like me who is always in a fight-or-flight response, either angry or scared, that kind of irreverent laughter from my bosses was a salvation.
Detox/Healing crisis
Used when unfaithful people stop contacting you or start complaining with mysterious reverse-resentment.
Well, they are the kind of person who does this, and looking back, I suppose I've been dealing with them while ignoring my gut feelings from the start. Even if it's sudden, it's a result that was bound to happen.
It's a necessary purge to select people I can have a healthy relationship with, so I want to look at it positively.
Meth-appointment
Refers to pointless meetings or interviews that are like meth. This is not my original.
By calling time-thieving appointments where only effort is drained and nothing is useful 'meth-appointments,' the responsibility for having gotten caught in such a thing and the wasted time are automatically shifted to external factors, and it becomes, 'It's meth, so it can't be helped, right?'
It can't be helped, right? It's not my fault that something as dangerous as meth became an appointment. It's important not to carry too much responsibility.
Fully baked
People with too strong a personality or too much pressure, even if they are good people, you don't really want to get involved with them actively! People whose eyes are wide open or who suddenly close the distance, I never want to see them again and they are too scary.
However, when you absolutely have to interact with such people, if you enter observation mode and think “Ah, their character is fully baked.”you can somehow keep your sanity.
Yes, yes, even when you encounter a stereotypical misogynistic old man, you can reduce the damage a bit by thinking I see! So they are someone who has mastered that kind of character, they are fully baked! Also, when you have to meet such people through someone's introduction, you can avoid making the introducer feel bad. Honestly reporting, 'They were quite fully baked!' won't cause any friction.
