I participated in WheeLog! in Kawasaki!

The photo was taken when I achieved the mission of 'going to Todoroki Athletics Stadium'.
I traveled 1.4 km from the station in a wheelchair, going from Kawasaki Station via Musashi-Kosugi Station.
I participated in the Fujitsu × WheeLog! in Kawasaki 2023 event.

A summary in one sentence

Through the experience of walking around town in a wheelchair, I had the following three realizations.

• [Hardware aspect] It is difficult to walk because sidewalks are sloped for drainage, narrowed by street trees, or blocked by parked cars. On the other hand, the evolution of electric wheelchairs is remarkable. This time, I was able to experience the Wheel thanks to the kindness of a participant.

• [Software aspect] I was moved by the kindness of the station staff who said 'Please be careful' when laying a board between the platform and the train, and by the restaurant that quickly prepared seats for two wheelchairs during lunch. One of the participants was happy, saying it was their first time having champon in two years.

• [Aspects to improve] People walking while looking at their smartphones at the station rush toward the wheelchair, and people smoking while walking are also scary because their swinging hands are at the same height as my face. I felt that moral standards should be improved further.

The experience was fun like a game, and I made discoveries during it.

I chose the most difficult mission, 'going to Todoroki Athletics Stadium,' because I was curious and the wheelchair had high performance, making it seem like I could go far quickly.
It takes more time than expected to 'get on and off the train'.
First, there is only one ticket gate. You tell the station staff, 'I want to get off at this station'.
Elevators are not just for wheelchairs; there are many other people who need them. The platform is overflowing with people. Apparently, you cannot change the station you are getting off at while you are on the train.
After getting off, you wait for the elevator. And there was only one barrier-free restroom.
After leaving the station, there are buses 'bound for Todoroki Athletics Stadium,' but some vehicles are not suitable for electric wheelchairs because they are large and heavy. So, I pushed on for 1.4 km.

If the facilities are well-equipped, you can go with peace of mind.

If you are just walking around town, you don't mind small steps, and you can manage with restrooms. To increase the freedom of movement in a wheelchair, there is a service that records restrooms, elevators, restaurants, and wheelchair walking logs using a smartphone app. That isWheeLog! Even if you are not a wheelchair user, I think that registering small observations will expand the range of movement.
For the future,I will steadily register from now on.
