Hiromi Abe served as a personality for "Rikuzentakata Disaster FM" for about three and a half years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The camera recorded at an intimate distance the days she spent close to the memories and thoughts of the local people, delivering their many voices through the radio.
The reconstruction of the town washed away by the tsunami proceeded steadily, and the sight of a new town being built on the raised land overlapped in many layers.
Something being lost, and something yet to be encountered.
As time passed, Abe said—It's not that I've forgotten, but I've started to look a little bit ahead.
The director is Haruka Komori, a filmmaker who moved to Tohoku after volunteering following the earthquake and has been recording the ever-changing landscape of the town and the lives of the people she met. Filmed in parallel with her masterpiece "The Trace of Breath," this work was completed as an "Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art Original Film Project," a project aimed at opening up new possibilities for video expression. It was screened consecutively at the Aichi Triennale, the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, and the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions, receiving a particularly large response even among cutting-edge programs.
