The Story of a Smartphone User Making LINE Stickers Using AI: It Was Supposed to Be Quick, but It Became a Record of Love and Struggle

Good evening🌙
I published an e-picture book on BOOTH📖

I am Hitomi Kuma, a mom in her late 30s
raising Arara🦝, a 4-year-old child with developmental differences.

💭 This time for sure, I'll finish it quickly!

How many times have I thought that now?

This is a record of my experience creating LINE stickers using AI tools.

I was supposed to make full use of Gemini, ChatGPT, and Canva—but,

in the end, it turned into a gritty struggle for this mom in her late 30s.

I hope this serves as a reference for anyone else thinking about making their own stickers🌿

📦 What are these stickers like?

The star of these stickers isKurara the Jellyfish.

The inspiration came from the craft jellyfish that my 4-year-old son, Arara,
worked so hard to make🪼

Arara has an ASD diagnosis, as well as traits of ADHD & DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder).

Crafts that require manual dexterity aren't easy, but I took that jellyfish she worked so hard to make, stylized it as a character, and turned it into a LINE sticker.

This is the jellyfish from that time 🪼

To be a totally doting parent, it's just so cute... 🥹

🖌️ Differences from previous sticker production

My previous production style was something like this.

1st and 2nd works: I turned my own drawings into 3D, gave instructions on what kind of image I wanted, and had AI generate them (5 patterns from one).

3rd work (last time): I took photos of the animal drawings I had made myself one by one and edited them (32 types of animals).

This time, I tried to see if I could 'make them quickly' by referring to everyone's notes.

👇️ So many people!!

✨ Image Generation Edition | Believe it or not, in just one prompt!

When generating the stylized character image, I entered the prompt once this time, and...

it was truly completed in one go.

Here it is▼

It feels like a lie that it used to take several days.

Honestly, everything went smoothly up to this point.

I thought, 'This time I can really do it quickly!'

(Not knowing that there was a pitfall ahead...)

✂️ Cutting phase | Dark clouds gather here

This time, for the first time, I tried to incorporate a tool to cut images uniformly into my workflow.

I didn't have the courage at the beginning of last year, but

I've become proficient with Canva and NotebookLM, so I thought, 'I can do this now!' and took on the challenge.

However—

the screen froze.

Yes, I am a smartphone user.

I managed to register from the browser, but after that... the screen wouldn't move😭

I gave up.

🤖 AI Utilization Chapter | Consulting with Professor Charlie and requesting edits from Jimmy

When I thought, "What should I do?", I knew I could rely on my AI partners.

First, I got advice from Professor Charlie (ChatGPT), and

once the plan was set, I decided to ask Jimmy (Gemini) to edit the images.

Interaction with Jimmy

When I first checked, Jimmy told me he could handle cutting them individually for up to 16 images.

However, after trying it 2 or 3 times...

▶ The original image with 32 types lined up kept appearing over and over😂

So I changed my strategy and decided to have it generate them one by one.

Prompt used (feel free to copy and paste)

Please recreate only the sticker that says "XX (e.g., Hello)" from this image.
・Only one character per image
・Size: 370x320px
・Background: Green
・Enclose everything with a white border
・Include margins (about 10px on all sides)
・Reproduce the original design (character, color, pose, expression, text) as faithfully as possible
・Make lines and text clear and easy to read
・Composite images are prohibited (must output individually)
Please maintain the same style and character.

Success!

It takes time, but it's a reliable method.

After a few rounds, Jimmy-kun gets tired.
He stops being able to follow instructions.

Strangely human (lol)

So, when things stopped going well,
I called it a day and carried over to the next.

🌿 Background Removal Edition | The Incident Where Kurara's Body Became Transparent

Now, all that's left is to remove the background in Canva and finish it up—

or so I thought, but there was one miscalculation.

This jellyfish, Kurara, has green in her body.

When I made the background transparent, some of the characters ended up becoming transparent too... 🤣

From there, I managed to succeed by manually cutting them out one by one.

It was supposed to be "quick," but it ended up taking several days.

📅 A note about the review period getting longer

One thing for those thinking of making LINE stickers I want to share.

Recently, due to the increase in people making LINE stickers,
it seems that reviews are taking longer.

✅️ When I applied in March, it passed review the next day

✅️ This time, it took 6 days

I recommend applying with plenty of time in your schedule!

🪼 Summary

What I did ▶ Results

Image generation (1 prompt)
▶✅ Success on the first try!
Background removal tool
▶ ❌ Gave up because it froze on my phone
Asked Gemini to recreate them one by one
▶ ✅ Took time, but succeeded
Background transparency in Canva
▶⚠️ The green color showed through, requiring manual work
Overall thoughts
▶In the end, it took several days😂

Even so—

It was good that I was able to finish it within May even though it was scheduled for sale in June🌙

There were also parts where the work was easier because they were already outlined.

For my next project, I'm considering using my own drawings as a base while also looking into a deformed version.

I feel that the possibilities for creation are gradually expanding through my dialogue with AI.

💬 I'd like to ask you

Are you a smartphone user or a PC user when you create?

If you have any tips unique to smartphone users like "this is how I do it!", please let me know in the comments🪼
