[My Work Style Experiment] If I put my all into making a 3D animation to make my son smile, will it lead to work?

Introduction

Hello everyone.
Since participating for the first time in 2022, it has become like a life's work for me to join the New Work Style LAB Researcher Program, and this is my third time participating!

This term, I will be participating in both the designated project and an independent project.
This is the experimental plan for my independent project, 'If I put my all into making a 3D animation to make my son smile, will it lead to work?'

This article summarizes the 'work style experiment' I am conducting personally as part of my participation in the Lancers New Work Style LAB 'Researcher Program.'
If you are interested in the 'Researcher Program,' please go here ▼.

◆ Purpose and Background of the Experiment

Q. Why did you decide to try this experiment?

A.
1. I added the motivation of 'wanting to make my son happy' to 3D production, which I have been interested in for a long time but have struggled to study.

2. 'Participating in the Researcher Program to take on new challenges and experiments' is an essential life's work for me to continue growing as a freelancer. I will use this independent project to observe myself at fixed points.

1. I added the motivation of 'wanting to make my son happy' to 3D production, which I have been interested in for a long time but have struggled to study.

In last year's independent project How will my work style and income change if a second-year mom freelancer turns herself into content?, I touched on 3D production under the name of 'turning hobbies into content.'

However, since the balance between childcare, housework, and work was already at its limit, the choice to cut back on work to do it was difficult, and I could only 'touch the entrance wall' at best.

This year, with my son starting kindergarten, I have a little more time, and I have set a goal to keep my motivation going: 'Show my son a 3D animation I made myself and make him happy,' and to have the exchange of 'Mom made this!' 'Wow! That's amazing!'

A rocket I made when I was studying 3D last year.
When I showed this to my son (3), he said, 'That looks hard, doesn't it?'
He understands well, my son.

2. 'Participating in the Researcher Program to take on new challenges and experiments' is an essential life's work for me to continue growing as a freelancer. I will use this independent project to observe myself at fixed points.

In the 2nd and 3rd terms, I recorded my activity time during my independent projects to measure how much time I was actually spending on work, and how much time I could allocate to the independent project.

Just by comparing the time breakdown of the 2nd and 3rd terms, I realized that my work time had more than doubled, confirming that I am successfully increasing my work. I was also able to objectively grasp how much time I could allocate to my activities despite having an uncertain schedule with a child (suddenly going to the hospital, or work not progressing due to long absences).

Especially for moms who usually look after their children, it is difficult to view their own activities objectively.
But since I chose the work style of a 'mom freelancer,' I want to find a better balance so that both myself and my family can be happy.

To achieve that, I will use the independent project to grasp my schedule, what I want to do, and what is actually difficult to do.

This is a foundational part of my freelance activities, and I wanted to take this opportunity again this year to keep it as observational data.

◆ What I want to verify

Q. What do you want to verify through this experiment?

A. By pursuing the personal goal of 'wanting to see my son's smile,' I want to verify whether 'mom' and '3D,' which seem unrelated at first glance, can be connected and lead to acquiring work.

◆ Overview of Activities

Q. What activities do you plan to do to achieve the purpose and verification content of the experiment?

A.
1. Prepare dissemination environment and select dissemination methods
2. Determine learning plan
3. Just keep tinkering and making something
4. Refine content to shape it into a work
5. Work production
6. Publish completed work
7. Observe my son's reaction

◆ Output/Results

Q. What kind of output do you imagine through this experiment? And what kind of results are you looking for?

A.
・Announce the production process on the 3D/metaverse dissemination account I created last year
・Monthly progress report on this note
・Ultimately distribute on platforms such as YouTube
・Will it lead to work?

I will post my daily progress here!

note

Oh, by the way, the name is different (lol).
My work account that I usually use as KAHO is also related to video, so I decided to use Katie for 3D just to make it easy for me to understand as a hobby (though I've gotten confused myself sometimes).

Last year, I was touching Unity like this

◆ Experiment Measurement Method

Q. How will you quantify the experiment?

A.
・How much reaction I get from sharing the work progress as a beginner
・Number of video views
・Ultimately, "Did my son enjoy it?" is the best measurement of results
・Compare time usage with the previous year by looking at the monthly time track

◆ Schedule/How to proceed

Q. How will you use the approximately 6 months of the research period?

A.
・June to early July: Create dissemination account, decide which SNS to upload what to
・Mid-July to mid-September: Just keep making things I want to try making
・Late September to early October: Think about the content of the work
・October to end of November: 3D animation work production period
・December: Publish completed work

◆ Finally

So, this time, I wrote an experimental plan for my independent project "If I put my all into making a 3D animation that makes my son smile, will it lead to work?".

This time, I am also participating as a community supporter for the "New Work Style LAB" researcher community, and I feel that the key will be how much time I can make to commit to this independent project.

I'm going to be someone who can handle 3D in half a year...!

Well then, look forward to my next monthly report.
