2-7. Why should you print out your Kindle manuscript to check it?

Once your Kindle book manuscript is finished, I strongly recommend printing it out to check it. When you print it out ──

・Typos and omissions
・Sentence expression and structure
・Whether there are any leaps in logical development

You will definitely make discoveries like these. You will find many things you didn't notice while looking at your computer monitor.

In an experiment conducted by Toppan Forms Co., Ltd., an information management solutions company, it was confirmed that even with the same information, paper media (reflected light) is superior to displays (transmitted light) for helping people understand information.

I always print out my manuscript when I check it. I mark up the printed version with a red pen, retype it on my computer, print it out again, and polish the manuscript.

Even a manuscript that I thought was perfect after checking it many times on my computer monitor ends up covered in red ink when I print it out and check it. In my most recent manuscript, there were over 100 red marks...

Also, just by switching from a computer monitor to a "paper manuscript," your perspective shifts, allowing you to face the manuscript objectively, so you can improve the manuscript even further.

As an aside, changing your location also refreshes your thinking. I often take my printed manuscript to a cafe or a place where I can relax to check it (it also makes me feel like a writer, haha).

Have someone else read it

When I self-publish on Kindle, I rely on trusted people, such as Empathy Writing® Certified Coaches, to read it before publication and give me feedback on typos, omissions, and content.

A manuscript that I thought was perfect after my own check ends up covered in red ink due to typos and omissions... Since they can point out things I can't notice myself, I highly recommend having someone else read it!

<Postscript> Even after publication...

Although I checked this book quite carefully for typos and omissions, three readers pointed out typos and omissions after publication.

It was truly moving that they not only read the book but also took the time to let me know about the typos and omissions!
(Thinking about it that way, maybe typos and omissions are okay once in a while, haha)
