I want to reduce hesitation before buying. The 'No-Regrets Shopping Research Lab' by an around-60 administrative manager.
Hello there, I'm Koichi.
I work as an administrative manager for a company.
In this note, I research various products useful for daily life, focusing mainly on home appliances, gadgets, and outdoor gear.
When choosing a product, it's not just the good points that concern me.
Will it really fit my lifestyle?
Is it worth the price?
Will I end up thinking, 'This isn't what I expected' after I buy it?
To reduce such pre-purchase hesitation as much as possible, I share information as the 'No-Regrets Shopping Research Lab'.
Why I started this note
In the past, I used to choose products because they were 'cheap' or 'popular,' and I would sometimes regret it later.
The reputation was good, but it didn't fit how I use things.
It was larger than I had imagined.
The base price was low, but it ended up costing money for accessories and consumables.
My family told me it was 'a bit hard to use,' and it ended up going unused.
Product pages are filled with attractive features.
However, it is not uncommon for the points to watch out for—which you only notice after purchasing—to be hidden away.
Because I shop within a limited budget, I want to avoid failure as much as possible.
I want to create a place where people who are struggling with the same decisions can find the information they need to know before buying.
That is the reason I continue this note.
What I research in this note
When writing articles, I try not to judge based solely on the product information from the official website.
After checking official information and specification tables, I organize user reviews, reputations, and differences from similar products.
The main points I check are as follows.
・Product features and basic specifications
・Positive reviews and concerns
・Points to know before purchasing
・Maintenance costs and expenses for consumables
・Compatibility with installation location and usage environment
・Differences from similar products
・Who it is recommended for and who it is not
・Whether it is worth the price
Rather than just listing the good points, I will explain the disadvantages and who the product might not be suitable for as clearly as possible.
There are almost no products that can be recommended to everyone.
I believe that what is important is not whether a product is popular, but whether it fits your purpose and lifestyle.
The articles are divided into three categories.
In this note, I will distinguish the content of the articles as clearly as possible.
Pre-purchase Research
These are articles that organize the points you want to check before purchasing, based on official information, specifications, reviews, and reputation.
These are not reviews based on my own personal use.
Currently, I am focusing on these pre-purchase research articles.
Usage Reviews
These are articles that summarize my thoughts and concerns regarding products I have actually purchased or used myself.
I will also specify the usage period and environment as much as possible.
Comparisons and How to Choose
These are articles that compare multiple products or types and organize which product is suitable for whom.
I value the idea that how to choose changes depending on your purpose and budget, rather than just simple rankings.
I also handle products other than home appliances.
I mainly deal with home appliances, gadgets, and outdoor gear.
However, I do not intend to limit the genres only to those.
I will also cover 'products that are easy to hesitate about buying' in daily life, such as daily necessities, car supplies, seasonal items, and health and comfort goods.
What I value more than the genre is:
'Whether it is worth researching before purchasing'
'Whether it is useful for the reader's product selection'
These are the points I focus on.
I don't introduce products just because they are trending; I choose products that help organize the decision-making process before buying.
Three criteria for looking at products
When I research products, there are criteria I place particular importance on.
Does it fit the family's lifestyle?
Even if I am satisfied alone, if it takes up too much space, makes annoying noises, or is difficult for the family to use, it will be hard to keep using it for a long time.
From the perspective of living with a family, I also check for ease of use and storage space.
Is it worth the cost?
The true cost cannot be understood from the base price alone.
I also check the costs incurred after purchase, such as electricity bills, replacement parts, consumables, and dedicated accessories.
A cheap product is not necessarily a good deal.
Conversely, even if the price is high, if it can be used for a long time, the burden may be lower in the end.
Can I accept the points of concern?
This does not mean I won't buy a product if it has even one flaw.
What is important is whether that flaw is acceptable to me.
Even if it is loud, it might not be a problem if used outdoors.
Even if it is somewhat heavy, it might not be a problem if you don't carry it around.
Instead of hiding the disadvantages, I think about how it can be used without causing issues.
Most read articles to date
Among the articles published so far, the research article on spot coolers has exceeded 36,000 total page views.
The Apple Watch SE article has also been read over 10,000 times in total.
I believe the reason so many people read them is not just because of the product's strengths, but because...
'Who is it not suitable for?'
'What should be checked before purchasing?'
...many people wanted to know these points.
Rather than strongly recommending products, I provide the materials for readers to make their own decisions.
I will continue to value that approach.
Things I want to uphold when writing articles
In this note, I keep the following in mind:
・Do not write as if I have used a product I have not purchased
・Distinguish between official information and user reviews
・Do not select only positive reviews
・Do not state unverified information as fact
・Clearly indicate when something is an advertisement
・Also convey who it is not suitable for and points of caution
・Review outdated information as much as possible
Research articles sometimes contain things that only people who have actually used the product would know.
Therefore, I will introduce usage experiences as reviews and ensure they are not confused with my own personal experience.
As someone who researches and organizes information, I intend to continue building up articles with sincerity.
When you are unsure about choosing a product
'I'm curious about the reviews for this product'
'There are so many similar products that I don't know the difference'
If you have questions like, 'Which one would suit my way of using it better?'
Please let me know via the article comments.
While I cannot guarantee I can research every product, I will use your input as a reference for future article themes.
I will also reply to comments to the best of my knowledge.
For shopping without regrets
The time spent choosing products can be surprisingly burdensome.
While looking at official websites, searching for reviews, and comparing similar products, you might sometimes lose track of what criteria you should be using to choose.
I would be happy if this note could become a place to organize such hesitations.
I will research what you need to know before buying, while valuing a family perspective and cost-effectiveness.
If you follow me, I will deliver pre-purchase research on products useful for daily life, not limited to home appliances and gadgets.
So that you don't regret your purchase later.
Let's think about choosing products you can be satisfied with together.
