[Taste Log] #4 - Menya Tokishige Soka Main Store

I've been craving some delicious chicken paitan tsukemen for a while, so I went to this restaurant!

Menya Tokishige Soka Main Store
2-5-5 Takasago, Soka City, Saitama Prefecture

It's usually overflowing with a line, so it's hard to take a picture of the exterior without people in it...
When it's really busy, the line can double back with over a dozen people, so today wasn't too bad. When I went, it was a weekday at 1:00 PM and there was a wait of about 6 people.

There are other locations like the Keisei-Okubo and Nishikawaguchi branches, but for some reason, when there are multiple locations, I always want to go to the main store. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way.

When you exit the ticket gate at Soka Station and turn right, you can see something that looks like a mysterious mountain.

A mysterious mountain

After that, turn right at this mountain

Once you see the view in the photo above, just go straight along the train tracks and you'll arrive at the restaurant!

This time I ordered the rich chicken paitan tsukemen! It's 1100 yen!
A seasoned egg, spinach, and two types of chashu come as standard, and you can't add more. Aside from the usual chashu, it comes with chicken chashu (in the foreground of the photo), which is incredibly tender and delicious.

The noodles are thick, though not extra-thick. The texture is pleasant, and they go well with the soup.

As for the soup, which is the most important part, the chicken flavor is just incredible!
Since I chose the rich version, the soup is thick and clings well to the noodles, and you can also smell the fish powder. I think people who like tonkotsu-gyokai style tsukemen will also like this soup.
Actually, there are onions inside too, and the occasional crunch is quite delightful.

The soup is kept warm with solid fuel, so there's no need to worry about it getting cold. When eating tsukemen, you might sometimes try to save the soup to keep it from getting lukewarm, but with this tsukemen, it's the opposite. Since it's constantly being heated, if you don't add the noodles quickly to cool it down, the soup will evaporate and the amount will keep decreasing.
You can just add the noodles without thinking, so you can enjoy the tsukemen without any stress!

The flavor-changing item is yuzu kosho. Having this adds a different dimension to the dish.
The table seasonings are, from the left, vinegar, fish powder, black pepper, and garlic. I love fish powder, so I added about 10 shakes of it lol

The regular chicken paitan is soy sauce-based, and there is also a salt-based chicken paitan. That one is also very delicious.
I want to take pictures again next time I go.

Postscript
I also ate the salt ramen on a later date.

Chicken Paitan Salt Ramen (1000 yen)
There is also a tsukemen version of the salt flavor.

It actually comes with lettuce, but I have them leave it out because the grassy smell seeps into the soup, making it impossible to taste the soup's original flavor and aroma. I actually love vegetables, but I personally don't think they go well with this ramen.
I almost always drink all the soup. It's truly delicious.

The restaurant is closed on Thursdays and the second Tuesday of the month, and payment is cash only. They will provide change if you ask. There are only counter seats, 12 in total, if I recall correctly.

The service at this restaurant is also very polite and it is a very comfortable place to be!
If you are in the area, please do stop by.
See you next time!
