#6 "I wanted to hear that voice one more time."
"That voice I thought I would never hear again was still lingering within me——"
🧑🦰 Character Introduction:
◆ Rio Amamiya (29) An editor working at a publishing house. Amidst her busy daily life, she keeps her past love deep in her heart, though she is sometimes shaken by sudden sounds or scents.
◆ Naoya Morishita (31) Her ex-boyfriend. He has a kind and gentle personality, and it used to be his habit to send a "goodnight" via voice memo from his business trips.
There was one voice memo on her smartphone that she couldn't bring herself to delete.
"...It was a bit cold today. Don't catch a cold. Well then, goodnight."
The owner of the voice was someone she had broken up with several years ago—Naoya.
Every time she changed her phone model, she transferred the data, and even though she kept telling herself to delete it, for some reason, this one remained.
"...Alright, enough is enough."
Rio made up her mind to delete the memo. However, just as her thumb was about to touch the screen, her hand stopped at the sound of a train departure bell that suddenly began to ring.
As if overlapping with that sound, she heard a voice she had heard somewhere before.
"...Amamiya?"
Standing where she turned around was——
"...Naoya?"
In the middle of the crowd, just for a few seconds. But, she recognized that voice clearly.
A few days later.
A new voice memo arrives on Rio's smartphone. The sender is unknown. But that voice—
"...I would be happy if we could talk properly again. This time, until the very end."
That voice, trembling yet clearly heard, gently stirred Rio's heart.
In place of the audio she was about to delete, a single new "voice" was saved.
That sound begins to set their time in motion once again—
💬 Author's Note
I think "voices" are mysterious things.
Even though they are invisible, someone's emotions reach you directly.
Perhaps that is why a voice once lost remains in our memories forever.
In this story, I depicted time beginning to move again, triggered by a "voice that was heard."
I would be happy if you could read this while focusing not on looking back at the past, but on the "strength to face things anew, right now."
