2025, Things I Did for the First Time in My Life!
Having lived for nearly 40 years, experiences that feel fresh in my daily life have become rare.
When I was working, regardless of my own will, events (troubles) that made me think "Are you kidding me?" would occur, and I would meet people who made me go "Whaaaat," providing regular stimulation to my brain. However, since I quit my job last year due to moving for marriage, the wonder in my life has almost completely disappeared.
As someone who loves stimulation, I cannot settle for that kind of life.
In 2025, I spent the year searching for "first-time life experiences."
I will record some of them as my final note of the year.
◆Cooking Section◆
Things I tried making for the first time (and might never make again).
・Meat pie
・Motsu-ni (stewed offal)
・Slow-cooked pork belly cartilage (Paika)
・Simmered yellowtail roe (Mako)
・Abalone sashimi
・[Extra] Knife sharpening
◆Lessons Section◆
Lessons or learning-related things I started new this year!
・AI English conversation app Speak ← Lately... I haven't... opened it much... (regret)
・Pilates ← This is something I'm hooked on. It's the best. I want to keep doing it forever.
・Tea ceremony at the Dai Nippon Chado Gakkai ← A transition from Urasenke
・Tanka poetry culture school
◆Body Section◆
Various first-time experiences related to my body!
・First time catching COVID! First time catching norovirus!
・Fine-needle aspiration cytology of the mammary gland, followed by a stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsy
・Hysterosalpingography, followed by artificial insemination
My body worked really hard again this year—thank you (*^^*)
◆Others◆
Other rare first-time life experiences!
・Census enumerator ← In the end, I received about 150,000 yen in compensation for 3 survey districts and 240 households.
・Running a marathon wearing an air costume (the one that inflates with air)
・I also started writing articles on note this year!
There were many things, but I feel I can summarize this year as a fun one as well.
Actually, I didn't like the fact that I only felt stimulated by "new things" lately.
It felt greedy, in a way.
It felt synonymous with being unable to appreciate the "daily life that is always by my side."
But, I encountered the following passage in Ryo Asai's essay "Kaze to Tomoni Yutorinu" (Gone with the Yutori).
Now that the passive growth period—where we learned to speak, walk, grew taller, and our feet and shoulder sizes increased without us doing anything—has ended, regardless of whether it is necessary or unnecessary, the only way to change the contours of oneself is to actively reach out for some kind of first-time experience.
Perhaps I am not just a greedy person devouring new things, but rather living an eco-friendly and self-resolving life where I actively change my own contours, enjoy those changes, and make my life something that never gets boring.
Thinking conveniently like that, I look forward to what will happen next year...
I will conclude this year's note.
May everyone who read this article have a peaceful end of the year and a fun year ahead!
