[Walking Power Spot Experiment #8] I stopped using my smartphone before bed, and I stopped waking up in the middle of the night
How are you doing?
I'm Yuiho, currently training to be a walking power spot✨
Are you sleeping well?
I used to wake up every hour—at 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 AM—and then fall back asleep...
Because of that, I couldn't sleep soundly until morning.
Recently, I've been going to bed after 1:00 AM to match the schedule of the person who gets home the latest.
And I wake up before 6:00 AM to match the person who wakes up the earliest.
My brief period of happiness waking up at 4:30 AM has fallen apart😭
When I looked back recently and thought, "I just can't seem to shake off this fatigue,"
I realized, "Well, of course that's the case."💧
"If that's the case, I'll improve the quality of my sleep."
That's a great luck-boosting action, isn't it?✨
First of all, I know from personal experience that using a smartphone before bed is not good.
I've had experiences where I slept soundly when I didn't touch my phone before bed or when I left it far away while sleeping.
This time, I conducted an experiment with the theme of improving sleep quality.
It seems I'm the type for whom the standard approach doesn't work😓
💡 Experiment to improve sleep quality
Leave the smartphone in the living room and go to sleep.
"What if there's an earthquake?"
"What if I oversleep?"
I had those anxious feelings, so I kept my smartphone near my bed.
But, if I think about it as a luck-boosting lifestyle,
I realized that "acting based on anxiety is not good."
If I'm going to act based on "doing this is good for you✨",
・Do not look at your smartphone before bed
・Do not bring smartphones or electronic devices into the bedroom
I'm sure many people already know this, right?
So, I should just do that, right?
It was then that I came across this article.
This is an article by "ioRe -Iori- | A spiritual therapist who aligns and 'tunes' the body, mind, and soul as a trinity." article.
Sleeping with your smartphone next to your head as an alarm is like sleeping with your head inside a microwave.
It was written like that, and I was shocked, thinking, "Is it really that bad!?"
So, I decided not to bring my smartphone into the bedroom.
Actually, it wasn't a problem at all.
If I oversleep, my youngest child will definitely wake me up anyway.
Reading or stretching
What should I do before bed?
Reading is probably the classic choice.
The result.
I was already sleepy after two pages (lol).
Too good for time performance 🤣
Reading makes me sleep well, but it didn't seem like something I could keep up, so I also tried stretching.
It's a simple stretch where you just lie on your back and lift your hips.
As it turned out, I didn't just do one type; I ended up doing various stretches while I was at it, so I felt pleasantly tired and it was a good feeling.
I'm terrible at meditation

I thought meditation was also a classic choice, so I gave it a try.
I can meditate while I'm moving, like when I'm writing or cleaning, but I'm really bad at sitting quietly or lying down to do it 💦
I've learned breathing techniques, so I know how to do it, but when I actually try...
Wait? Do I pull my stomach in when I exhale? Or push it out?
I can't visualize being wrapped in golden light...
And my left brain goes into full gear (lol).
I started it to relax, but it ended up making me busier instead 😂
This is just impossible now.
Place an amethyst on the side table
I wonder if it purifies the bedroom?
Thinking that, I tried placing an amethyst on the side table.
If you want to make your side table look stylish and focus on creating a comfortable bedroom, it's effective.
I'm not really sure about the sleep benefits (lol).
Use an eye mask

This is effective!
I intentionally chose not to have blackout curtains in my bedroom.
I thought it would be nice to wake up naturally as the light comes in.
My husband loves using an eye mask, so I wondered if it was really that good and gave it a try.
It was truly pitch black, and I was able to focus on sleeping!
Since it gets bright early in the summer, I thought an eye mask is a good idea if you want to sleep soundly.
However, with the 100-yen shop one, the elastic band around my head bothered me.
That was the only drawback.
Keep naps short
I was so tired that sometimes when I laid down for a bit during the day or evening, I would end up sleeping for about two hours.
Then I couldn't sleep at night.
I set a timer for just 30 minutes, but sometimes I'm just too sleepy to wake up.
I thought that maybe long naps are related to diet, so I decided to do my best with eliminating the 4 poisons and reducing the 4 poisons.
I've heard that eliminating the 4 poisons improves sleep quality, after all.
Having fun daydreams

I thought, if I think about fun things before going to sleep, maybe I'll have good dreams, right?
When I tried daydreaming, it was actually quite fun.
Before I knew it, I had fallen into a pattern of drifting off to sleep easily.
“That top would look great with that skirt.”
“It would be fun if tomorrow turned out like this.”
Just thinking about things like this makes me sleepy😴
You have to be careful, because if your smartphone is nearby, you'll start searching for things.
This method might be effective precisely because there is no smartphone.
Sleep improvement habits I am continuing now
Stretching, using an eye mask, and daydreaming are still going on.
When I accidentally bring my smartphone into the bedroom (on the second floor), it's a hassle to go back down to the first floor to put it away.
Even so, I try to place it somewhere I can't reach while lying in bed.
I feel like even just that makes a big difference😊
I rated how effective it was for me on a 5-star scale.
📱 Don't bring your smartphone into the bedroom ★★★★★
📖 Reading ★★★★☆
🧘 Meditation ★☆☆☆☆ (Not for me😂)
💎 Amethyst ★★☆☆☆
😴 Eye mask ★★★★★
😴 Shorten naps ★★★★☆
🌈 Fun daydreams ★★★★★
Summary
In this experiment, the thing I felt was most effective was definitely the smartphone.
I end up looking at it before bed and when I wake up in the middle of the night, too.
But even if I only intend to look for a few minutes, it prevents my brain and eyes from resting.
I had tried this in the past and knew it, but just putting the smartphone away really reduced the number of times I wake up in the middle of the night significantly.
So, I realized once again that I have no choice but to physically keep my smartphone away.
For those who feel they 'can't let go of their smartphone,' try taking it out of the bedroom first.
Starting with such a small experiment is highly recommended, too.😊
