[Walking Power Spot Experiment #4] "Disaster Prevention and Tidying Go Hand-in-Hand!" Closet Luck-Boosting Techniques to Make Use of Things You Can't Throw Away
How are you doing?
I'm Yuiho, currently training to be a walking power spot✨
You know.
The moment you open a place you don't usually open,
"Oh, I might as well just do it all while I'm at it!"
Don't you ever feel like tidying up like that?
I do🤭
And when that happens, you get so absorbed in it that you can't stop, right?
My eldest son was going on an overnight trip.
"Which backpack should I take?"
"Where are the Ziploc bags for my clothes?"
We were rushing around even before he left.
But you know.
I couldn't immediately answer where all those travel Ziploc bags we have at home were kept💦
Oh, by the way.
In our house, we use Ziploc bags to separate travel underwear and clothes by day, like Day 1 and Day 2.
We also separate whose clothes are whose.
Otherwise, someone's belongings might get left behind💦
When I leave the post-trip tidying to the kids,
"Just put it here for now"
They just put things away randomly, so when I actually need them, I can't find them.
This is quietly stressful, isn't it~.
Well, it can't be helped.
He left safely, so I thought I might as well switch the bedding to the summer version while my eldest son is away.
That was about the extent of my intentions.

What I thought about during the earthquake at night
There was a big earthquake on the night my son went out.
I usually keep the living room tidy, so there are few things and it's safe.
"Ah, my usual cleaning wasn't in vain after all."
I felt a little grateful to myself for that.
But you know.
Since I leave the children's rooms on the second floor to them...
Well, they were in quite a state 😂
In the end, the next day,
it turned into a massive replacement festival 🎉 while I was swapping out the bedding.
A tumultuous two hours 🌟
While washing the bedding, I was sorting the laundry that I had washed and dried in the morning.
I opened the windows in all three rooms on the second floor
and vacuumed like crazy.
I was drenched in sweat. But it felt so refreshing! ✨
Wait? Where are the duvet cases?
There should be three IKEA duvet cases.
I was sure I had put the down duvets for my three children in them, but...
For some reason, there were winter accessories inside 🧣
So that's why I couldn't find the duvet cases!
From there, a major relocation across the three rooms began!
Use up what you have without buying more
That's what I thought when I aimed to be a minimalist.
It's faster to make use of what you already have than to buy more storage items.
After all, I've learned that those storage items can sometimes just get in the way.
That's when I had an idea:
Using backpacks I don't use as storage bags.
My children's backpacks that I can't bring myself to throw away, but don't use regularly.
"Now is your time to shine!"
So, please work hard for the sake of your owners who won't tidy up✨
👇Using things upto reduce the number of items is also important to me.
Storage by purpose in backpacks
One is for:
・Gloves
・Hats
・Winter accessories like goggles
The other is for:
A full set of my eldest son's high school gym clothes.
He doesn't seem to want to throw them away, and this way I can get them out immediately if he needs them.
I even added tags made from vocabulary cards to finish it off!
This is surprisingly convenient♪
IKEA cases, back to their original purpose
The IKEA "SKUBB" cases I had purchased.
I used them for their intended purpose: storing the duvets for my three children.
It's so much neater because you can store things upright, after all.
It's a favorite of mine♪
I found the clothes my daughter was looking for.
The training wear from her club days that my daughter had been looking for forever.
It was properly stored in a Muji soft box.
……But.
Deep in the back of the closet.
And without a tag, too.
No wonder she couldn't find it💦
It's not just about "storing things properly,"
but also "being able to take them out immediately when you want to use them."
I really felt deeply that this is important.
I attached a tag and moved it to my daughter's room.
What on earth is this drawer?
A single drawer that was on top of the closet.
When I took it down, it turned out to be a temporary storage spot, containing things like elementary school supply bags, a single glove, and a mysterious drawstring bag.
"What on earth is this?😂"
Yes, throw it all away!
I turned this into a dedicated case for my eldest son's trousers.
My eldest son.
I absolutely never hang them up (laughs).
When I do the laundry, I hang them on pants hangers to dry.
Once they're dry, I move them straight to the closet.
That's all it takes!
I'd leave the pants I couldn't decide on and didn't end up wearing just lying there in a mess instead of hanging them up.
So, I tried the method of folding and placing them like in a shop, but...
even that ended up a mess.
And on top of that, they get mixed up with my second son's clothes.
Since we're about the same height now, I really can't tell them apart 💦
So, I decided to just...
make it loose enough to say,
"If it fits inside this case, it's good enough!"
Bringing a sentimental knapsack back into active duty
It's durable, and for some reason, I just couldn't throw away my second son's knapsack.
I turned this into a sock organizer for him.
Apparently, even their socks get mixed up between the brothers.
Like one is missing, or socks that should have been there are gone!
They talk as if it's my fault 🤨
I made a tag like this and attached it to the backpack ♪

No, no, I do laundry every day, provided you actually put your clothes in the laundry basket.
So, I decided to protect my second son's socks, which are still in good shape.
Maybe this will reduce the time spent searching for them ♪
A broken carry-on suitcase is perfect for storing emergency supplies

A carry-on bag with a broken caster that I can no longer use.
I have two of them, and they are now used to store emergency supplies.
One is for daily necessities. Plastic wrap, bags, masks, tissues, lights, etc.
The other is for rain gear and clothing. Also things like toilet coagulants.
For my two older children, one set of their high school gym clothes serves as their emergency clothing.
They still fit, and if anything happens, people will know which school they attend.
Carry cases are actually quite useful in the closet because they stand up on their own.
I keep one on the first floor and one on the second floor.
When I realize, "I forgot to buy masks!" or "I'm out of plastic wrap!" 💦, I take them out from here, buy replacements, and put them back.
At the same time, I can also review the supplies.
Were there still things to throw away!?
I also took out all the children's clothing drawers to check them. Then,
And then,
・Socks missing their pair
・Clothes that they've outgrown
・Clothes they probably won't wear anymore
All sorts of things kept coming out.
"I thought there was nothing left to throw away~"
I had thought that, but,
Just by moving one place that I don't usually touch, more things still come out.Well, maybe it's because it's now that I can think,
Well, maybe it's because it's now that I can think,
"I guess that's enough. Thank you!"
I might be able to think that way.
Summary
Before the rainy season really sets in,
let go of things you don't need and clean the space you've cleared.
I think this is a wonderful luck-boosting action.
When things are packed too tightly, they can get moldy before you even notice, you know💦
Besides, I...
I believe that things are meant to be used.
Rather than just tucking them away,
making the most of what you have now,
I feel like the items themselves are happier that way.
If you hoard too much, the air in your home and your own mood become heavy.
That's why this kind of sorting and cleaning is a luck-boosting action for me.
Now then.
The closet in your home.
Have you opened it lately?
You might find some unexpected treasures,
or things you wonder, "Why did I keep this?"
They might just turn up!😊
