Today's Sports Day: Watching Him Awkwardly Learn the Social Atmosphere (582 characters)
Today was my son's sports day.
I wrote an article about it a year ago, too,
but time really flies...
This time, too, please let me talk about
a slightly understated aspect of it.
My son
was in charge of the finish line tape.
There were four children in charge of the finish line tape.
You know how the finish line tape
is held by two people, right?
So I was watching, wondering if there were
specific roles or rotations.
However, as far as I could see,
things like "when to switch"
or "who holds it next"
didn't seem to have any detailed procedures.
It felt like there was no set atmosphere for the fine details.
At first,
my son couldn't really do anything.
I even thought for a moment,
"Is he not going to get a turn until it's over?"
But halfway through,
the other child naturally handed the tape to my son.
I'm sure that, in their own way,
the children were managing it by reading the room.
So, from here on out
My son
releases the tape the moment the runner crosses the finish line.
However,
he doesn't know the movement to naturally pick it back up
for the next race.
At first,
he would just stand there after letting go.
As he repeated it two or three times,
he gradually learned the flow.
He made mistakes, too.
And then,
he applied those mistakes to the next time.
Watching, feeling confused,
failing, and trying again.
That is how
he learns little by little.
My son
pulled that off today.
...
What about me?
If I had done the same,
even now,
if I had challenged myself, failed, and learned,
I would surely be
standing on the same stage as my son.
I think that is something to be proud of.
