“The Instagram-Obsessed Owner vs. The Food-Obsessed Cats”: A Record of 70 Battles
A certain cat food company was running a campaign that said, "Please take photos of our new food with your cat and post them on social media."
—Wait, isn't that us?
That's what I thought.
Because my cats, Mugi and Yuzu, are die-hard Purina ONE believers.
They've been eating it since they were kittens, and they've even cheated on it.
I've tried giving them other brands.
But in the end, they always come back to Purina ONE.
It's basically their "home base."
Plus, this new product is a high-protein food.
We already have both the salmon and chicken flavors at home.
The conditions were just too perfect.
The way they devour it is nothing short of abnormal.
They eat it so well that I genuinely suspect there might be some kind of addictive powder in it to captivate cats.
I even have to manage their portions with an automatic feeder to keep them from overeating.
Mugi's glossy coat is probably thanks to this food... maybe.
Or maybe it's the fruit of my labor from brushing them every day.
(I want to emphasize that point.)
With that in mind, I started the photoshoot with high spirits.
—However.
There was no way my gluttonous, healthy cats were going to sit still.
They would shove their faces in as I tried to open the bag,
and if I told them to "wait a second," they would run away at full speed.
I wanted to take a picture with the food, but only the cats would show up in the frame.
Or, only a blurry cat would appear.
"Instagrammability" is all about patience.
Before I knew it, I had clicked the shutter nearly 70 times.
Out of those, the number of usable photos—could be counted on one hand.
I finally posted a few carefully selected shots to social media.
Still, though.
Mugi and Yuzu are truly adorable.
It's just right for an owner to be this much of a doting parent.
So, I decided to pick up my pen today to release a massive amount of photos that were unfortunately rejected.
Every single one of them is top-tier in terms of cuteness.

And to Purina ONE, for giving me the reason to take so many photos.
