[Wasabi's Cat Diary🐈⬛🐾] The Reserved Cat
I used to think that cats were free-spirited creatures.
They don't care if you're busy.
If you open a laptop, they sit on the keyboard; if you read a newspaper, they lie on top of it; and if you try to eat, they come over as if to say, "Me too."
That was the image I had.
But my cat is different.
He is incredibly reserved.
On days when I look busy, he comes a little closer.
But that's all he does.
He sits at a distance and stares at me.
"Come here."
Even when I call him, he doesn't come.
But he doesn't leave either.
He just watches me.
His expression is indescribable.
"You're busy today, aren't you?"
"Now isn't the right time, is it?"
"Next time is fine."
It makes me feel like that's what he's thinking.
Of course, I don't know if that's really what he's thinking.
But my cat watches people so closely that it makes me want to believe that's the case.
And, just as I finish my tasks, she comes closer in a mysterious way.
"Are you done?"
With that kind of look.
She climbs onto my lap, purring, as if she is checking, "It's okay now, right?"
Since she is a cat, she could be more selfish.
She could come to me for affection even when I'm busy.
She could start a sudden zoomie session.
Even if she woke me up in the middle of the night, I would surely laugh and forgive her.
And yet, my cat is considerate.
Every time I see that, I think.
Perhaps she isn't just watching me.
She might be watching my "peace of mind."
I am fully aware that I am a doting pet parent.
Even so, every day spent living with a cat who can be so gently considerate is truly happy.
And precious.
