Novel | Pinecone in My Pocket
On a day with an empty, cold sky, you, still a child, put me in your pocket. I cannot forget the warmth that wrapped around me. Before I knew it, you lost me, didn't you? There was a hole in your pocket. Even now, I am still rolling along that roadside with other pinecones.
As you grew older, you stopped looking at me as much. But I was happy. Whenever I looked up at your profile as you walked forward without looking down, I felt proud. And so, you became an adult.
I can see your face clearly again. Perhaps it is because you have started looking down more often since becoming an adult. However, it seems you do not notice me. I feel as though you are walking with an empty heart. Under the cold sky of October.
I wish I had a pocket, too. That is what I think. If I could put you in my pocket and keep you warm. But that cannot be. If that is the case, then at least, won't you notice me? If you let me into your heart, it would no longer be empty, would it?
