The Kindness of Mongolians

Well, I've gotten used to it now,
I've even gotten used to using the bathroom on the steppe.
A funny thing to get used to.



I spent the whole day traveling by car today.
It was clear and sunny, so I was able to get some great footage.

On the way, we refilled our water from a spring.
It was incredibly clear, cold, and delicious!

But because of the rain until yesterday, it was quite muddy,
and on top of that, the road was incredibly bumpy.


So, we ended up getting stuck in a swamp along the way.


There were four of us in a two-seater truck,
but it wouldn't budge at all...

We had to get some nomads to come help us.

But you know, the way they called them was really amazing,
since they couldn't explain the location (probably).
In the end, they called them with an incredibly loud whistle.

It echoed so much.



Then, from far away,
they came galloping over with a clip-clop sound!
It was so cool.
With the help of many people, we managed to get out! Everyone is so kind.
They didn't even look annoyed, and they were even singing something.


And then, with a feeling of 'thanks',
they rode off gallantly again,
and when we said, 'Okay, let's go',
we got stuck again.



The three Mongolians and I,
I couldn't understand a word they were saying, but,
we wedged stones in, rocked the car,
and my only T-shirt became pitch black with mud.



Then,
one of the nomads came back
and helped us together.



Aren't they all just too kind?



Yesterday, too, horseback riding was difficult due to heavy rain,
and on the way, some strangers let us take shelter from the rain in their ger.
Even though we just walked in, they gave us plenty of milk snacks and airag,
and I wondered why they were so kind.


In Japan, you wouldn't just ring a stranger's doorbell during a heavy rain, right?
Conversely, even if someone came, you'd be like, 'Huh?'


There was nothing like that at all; they just opened the door,
and when we said, 'Let us take shelter from the rain,'
they said, 'Sure,'


and even though our clothes were soaking wet, they let us sit on their bed.
I was moved by their kindness 🥹


For two days in a row, I have experienced the kindness of Mongolians.
