[Internal Secret!?] Introduction to 'Greedy Prompts' Created with Gemini
Introduction
I used to find our internal routine assignments tedious, so I basically got by without submitting them (since they weren't strictly mandatory).
However, now I look forward to those routine assignments and even feel like I want to submit more of them.
This dramatic change came about after I started working with Gemini.
Writing on my own is difficult, but with Gemini, even boring routine assignments became fun.
While having fun clearing routine assignments with Gemini, I discovered a
very convenient and powerful prompt.
In this note, I will introduce the convenient prompt that I have named the 'Greedy Prompt'.
The dilemma of 'when you don't have time' vs. 'when you do'
My company has assignments that need to be submitted periodically. You might have similar routine tasks at your company as well.
(As I wrote earlier,)
this assignment was a source of trouble for me.
First, I 'didn't want to submit it.'
However, that was solved by using Gemini.
The next problem was, 'When I don't have time, I just want to submit something for the sake of form. But when I have time, I want to think carefully and submit something of high quality.'
When I thought, 'Adjusting the prompt depending on the situation is a hassle...', it suddenly occurred to me.
'Couldn't I solve this by figuring out how to include both wishes in the prompt...?'
What is a 'Greedy Prompt'?
Born from that idea is this prompt.
#Request
Please create this month's routine assignment, a 'Consideration Report on XX'.
#Supplementary Note
・If you are short on time, first create a report that is at a level ready for submission as is.
・Regarding the report above, list up to 5 questions to further deepen the content. Please also explain the intent behind those questions.
・After I answer your questions, create a higher-quality final version of the report that incorporates my answers.
The good thing about this prompt is that you can get "deliverables for when you have no time" and "seeds of thought for when you do have time"all at once.
Since a reasonably good report is output from the start, you can submit it as is (when you have no time).
If you answer the questions from Gemini, an even better report will be output, so you can aim for a good evaluation from your boss (when you have time).
You can write interesting prompts with just a little bit of an idea, but because it is so powerful and convenient, I actuallykeep it a secret from people at work.
That is why it is an internal secret prompt (lol).
From tedious tasks to enjoyable work
Since I started using this "Greedy Prompt," my approach to routine tasks has changed significantly.
Routine tasks that I found incredibly tedious
have become easy to submit,
and by just answering a few questions,
they become quite good submission documents.
My own thinking is organized, and I am made aware of new perspectives. I have come to feel that the process itself is purely "fun."
It was the moment when "tasks I had to do because the company told me to" turned into "fun intellectual work" that deepens my thinking.
Routine tasks that I hated so much, I now even feel like I want to submit more of them.
Points to note about the Greedy Prompt
There is only one thing to be careful about when using this prompt.
The fact that Gemini will absolutely ask 5 questions
is a bit of a hassle (lol).
Even though I tell the prompt "up to 5," Gemini faithfully asks exactly 5 questions every time.
Sometimes the questions aren't that significant, so I wish it would just ask 4, but it always asks 5.
I suppose for Gemini, it always manages to find questions it wants to explore further...
Conclusion
The trick to a "greedy prompt" is to write the prompt assuming multiple tasks.
Make it ready to submit as is
Ask up to 5 questions
Once the questions are answered, output the final version
Once you get the hang of it, you should be able to write all sorts of greedy prompts.
Please, try creating your own "greedy prompt" with Gemini as your partner.
I'm sure the tasks you found tedious will turn into enjoyable work.
