My house has been sold. What I thought then was to look forward
I have put my current detached house up for sale in preparation for moving to a regional area next March.
Before putting it on the market, I was thinking, 'Will there be anyone who wants to buy this house? What if I end up selling it for less than the remaining mortgage balance?'
Since this is my first time selling real estate, I didn't know anything. I decided to list it at our desired price for the time being, and as a result, a buyer appeared, things progressed smoothly, and we recently signed a sales contract (a contract between the seller and the buyer to sell the object).
Selling my home was the thing I was most concerned about regarding the move, so I am relieved that we have successfully reached the contract stage.
So, I am finally saying goodbye to this house... When I thought about that, various memories came flooding back.
The many discussions we had, with my husband wanting a detached house but wanting to build it in his hometown (Fukuoka), and me wanting to build it near where we currently live (Kanagawa) because I didn't want to quit my job.
The hectic time of taking delivery of the house while in my final month of pregnancy, moving, and giving birth.
The times I spent crying because single-parenting was so tough that I didn't have the energy to enjoy the new house.
The house is packed with the 'firsts' of our two children: baths, rolling over, night crying, pulling themselves up, crawling, and taking their first steps.
The many times my husband and I fought because I couldn't balance work and childcare well after returning from maternity leave.
The many hours my husband and I spent talking when we decided to move.
Loneliness wells up inside me now that it's decided this house, which we built with the intention of living in until retirement at 65, will pass into someone else's hands.
But I don't think, 'I shouldn't have sold it.' No matter how many memories I have in this house, the days after moving are more attractive to me than the days I spend here.
The excitement of starting a life from scratch in a place I've never lived before is greater.
I lived in my hometown of Fukushima for 20 years, and after becoming a working adult, I lived in Kanagawa for 20 years. I have made major changes to where I live every 20 years. The next place is Fukuoka Prefecture. I don't know how many years I will live there, but I have decided to enjoy my time in the new place as well.
As it is written in many books, the moment you decide to do something is when you are at your youngest. That is why, although I feel a little lonely that the house has been sold, I intend to look forward and move on.
Keeping memories in photos, videos, and my own heart is enough. I am sure I will make many more memories in the next place as well.
Since my house has been sold safely, I wrote this on note to record my current feelings.
Thank you for reading until the end.
