[ChatGPT Study Session] GPT-5 as a "Chief of Staff" | Is your GPT just waiting for instructions? 03/06
Click here for Part 2 of the previous session
When it was announced that ChatGPT had "become GPT-5," many of you must have been in a buzz, thinking, "Wait, already 5!?" or "What exactly has changed?"
However, the reactions from those who actually tried it might have been surprisingly understated.
That is because GPT-5 has few flashy visual changes.
But it seems the quality of its internal "thinking" has changed significantly.
GPT-5 is an AI that "asks back"
For example, consider this interaction.
You: "Organize this document for the next meeting."
GPT-4o: "Understood. I have organized it as follows."
(It organizes it to a certain extent, just as told)
GPT-5: "Understood. However, I think the content might change depending on the purpose of the meeting and the audience, so in which direction should I organize it?"
(It casually includes a "counter-question")
This "proactive" communication.
This is where GPT-5's "chief of staff capability" lies. (It's a bit annoying, isn't it? Haha)
A style of "exploring together" the starting point of thought
GPT-5 is not just waiting for instructions; it shows responses that
try to grasp the intent behind the question.
This means it creates a new relationship where it can:
Handle the "fluctuations" of dialogue as they are
Organize the user's thoughts while establishing a core focus
Shape ideas through dialogue even when they are still vague
This is what it means to build a new relationship.
Using GPT-5 also improves the quality of your questions
"In the end, I see what I want to do while talking to GPT."
Many such voices are being heard.
This is no longer a subordinate, but a "sparring partner."
Or perhaps, the right-hand person of a small project team.
Rather than just creating output, it
draws lines of thought to assist you.
This may be the biggest difference in GPT-5.
Summary: The positioning of GPT-5
A "Chief of Staff" type that tries to understand background and context
It can give shape even to vague instructions or abstract questions
A "sounding board" partner you can think with
It articulates the "questions" within you
Next time, I will talk about the "design of relationships" between GPT-4o and GPT-5.
