[ChatGPT Study Session] I asked what Custom GPTs are.
"What does it mean for a GPT to have a personality?"
That was the question that kicked off this ChatGPT study session.
It all started when I happened to see the words "Custom GPT" one day.
Did you know that ChatGPT has a feature that lets you create your own personalized GPT?
If used well, this feature has the potential to become your "team member," "editor," "teacher," or "partner."
First of all, what is a "Custom GPT"?
It is a feature within ChatGPT that allows you to create a GPT tuned to your own preferences.
Broadly speaking, you can perform the following three types of customization:
You can set its tone and personality
→ For example, making it speak gently or return logical answers. You can have it read specialized knowledge or documents
→ For example, you can incorporate company rulebooks or product information. You can add unique tools (for developers)
→ This is a bit more advanced, but it allows for things like API integration.
I asked GPT: Why were Custom GPTs created?

The idea is that because "anyone can use AI anywhere," there was a demand for
an AI that caters to your own personal "way of using it.".
I see. It is true that recent AI tends to end up in a state where it "can do anything, but you don't know what to make it do."
Custom GPTs were introduced to resolve that.
I tried making some: My Custom GPTs
I actually tried making a few myself.

A GPT that remembers Knotcircle's philosophy and past projects.
Great for drafting articles and organizing ideas.[Bikkuri-Marke-kun]
Helps me think of promotional strategies for local gourmet food in Fukuoka.
Features niche analysis and a slightly quirky way of speaking (lol).
There is both fun and fear in it
If you use Custom GPTs well,
it feels like you have gained "another version of yourself."
But conversely, if you rely on it too much for "thinking," I also feel like
my own sensibilities and judgment might gradually dull.
That is precisely why the questions you ask when customizing are so important.
“What do I want to entrust to this GPT?”
“What do I want to receive from it in return?”
In this study session, I want to make it a session where we touch upontechnical aspectswhile simultaneously confirming
the distance between ourselves and our own thinking.
Summary: What kind of Custom GPT would you create?
I believe ChatGPT is a tool that demands more of your "own unique self" the more you use it.
Not a template, but a custom creation born from questions and purpose.
Perhaps this might actually be
the very process of knowing oneself.
