Now is the time for the "freedom of occupational choice."
I would like to talk about what I have felt regarding job hunting and ways of working during my many years of working in human resources.
When I was job hunting, it was during an era known as the "employment ice age."
There were few job openings and many applicants. Companies were the ones choosing, and students were the ones being chosen.
It was not uncommon to hear stories of people not receiving a single job offer even after applying to dozens, sometimes nearly 100 companies.
Naturally, only a handful of people could enter their desired industries or occupations.
I believe there were many people who entered society while compromising with reality, despite having dreams of what they really wanted to become or do.
That is precisely why there were people who continued to make efforts to make their dreams come true, and people who kept doing their best, believing that a chance would come someday.
■ Current Job Market Situation
On the other hand, how is it in today's era?
With the declining birthrate and aging population, many companies are facing a serious labor shortage as veteran employees reach retirement age.
Job openings have increased to a level unimaginable before, there is almost no distinction between men and women, and diverse ways of working and occupations are expanding.
Of course, companies have hiring criteria, and the fact that effort is required has not changed from the past to the present.
However, in terms of having a pure chance to take on a challenge, I feel that it has certainly expanded compared to our era.
This is truly a wonderful thing, isn't it?
■ An Era of Taking on Challenges
"I want to try this," "I want to get this job."
If you have such feelings, I definitely want you to take on the challenge.
In the past, it was an era where it was difficult even to stand at the starting line.
But now, the possibility of being able to stand at the starting line has greatly expanded.
Of course, it is necessary to continue making efforts after joining a company.
However, I think we live in a very blessed era where there is an environment where you can first take a step toward your dreams.
I have been involved in human resources and recruitment for over 20 years.
I have interviewed countless applicants and have also seen the recruitment scenes of many companies.
That is precisely why this is not just a personal impression.
I believe that there has never been an era where "the freedom of occupational choice is as realistic as it is now."
People who have a job they want to do, people who have a dream occupation, people who want to challenge themselves with new things.
Please, do not give up on that dream.
Opportunities are definitely expanding.
The rest depends on whether or not you go to grab that opportunity.
