The Story of Ponsuke and the Waves ①

The sea where the waves never cease.
They appear and disappear, only to appear and disappear again.

Why does the sea have waves?

“The sea has waves because it must be mean,” said Ponsuke.
Ponsuke is a fish boy. He has a round, plump body.
He became ill shortly after he was born, which caused his body to swell up. Because of that, he cannot swim very well.
Once, a big wave attacked him, and he was swept far away, which was a terrifying experience. That is why Ponsuke hates the waves of the sea.

“The sea has waves because it must be a magician,” said Ponsuke’s mom and dad.
When Ponsuke was a baby, his dad said, “Let’s build a sturdy house that won’t be swept away to protect Ponsuke from big waves.” “That’s a great idea. But how on earth are we going to do that...” his mom wondered, troubled.
A little while later... for some reason, a plastic bottle came drifting in front of them, swaying in the waves. Following that, a plastic bag came fluttering along, carried by the waves.
“Isn’t this perfect for our new home?” asked his mom.
“Alright, let’s make this our new home,” said his dad.
“To give us the house we were just wishing for, the waves are just like magic,” they both rejoiced. Then, they asked the nearby seaweed to help tie their house down so it wouldn’t drift away. In this way, Ponsuke’s family was able to get a safe home.
