This time, please allow me to explain the initiatives of Epics DAO.

What is Epics?

Epics is a social contribution-type BCG (Blockchain Game). Its goal is to transform open-source development, which is currently facing a serious resource shortage, into a sustainable environment.

Challenges in Open-Source Development

Open-source software has expanded rapidly over the last 10 years and is now adopted by over 90% of companies; however, open-source development is still fundamentally done for free, and it has not yet become a sustainable environment.

In fact, despite being widely used, many open-source software projects have not been maintained for over two years, and 84% (as of 2022) of corporate applications contain open-source code with vulnerabilities, which is a very dangerous situation.

However, as can be inferred from the fact that over 90% of all companies use it, open-source software has high value as a public good, and anyone in the world can use it and benefit from it. Open source is also indispensable for digital transformation (DX).

In 2021, the EU published a report investigating the impact of open-source development on society. It announced that investment in open-source development has a 10-fold cost-effectiveness based on the EU's total GDP (as of 2018).

Epics - The Buidlers Guild

Epics is a turn-based battle game where you choose one of three job types and earn points by actually contributing to open-source development, which you then use to level up your characters.

By having these three types of players cooperate—Developers (Dev) who solve various issues like vulnerabilities, Investors who contribute to global progress by supporting open-source development, and Degens who act as publicists to share these significant, lesser-known issues with the world—we can actually solve the social problems facing open-source development.

Since points are awarded for real-world actions that improve the resource shortage in open-source development, becoming stronger in the Epics game means you are making a significant contribution to open source.

This initiative aims to realize a better society by making contributions that were previously hard to see in the real world visible as status, providing incentives for positive social actions, and working together to solve these problems while having fun.

By developing a game platform tied to real-world issues, Epics provides incentives for every role: developers, investors, and publicists.

As each person seeks fun and incentives, their actions lead to the resolution of social issues.

We believe that this "new economy," created by combining blockchain and gamification, will solve problems that have never been solved before.
