I Failed at Being an 'Ishiki Takai-kei' (High-Consciousness Type)
Have you ever been called an 'Ishiki Takai-kei'?
Back in your student days, wasn't there at least one person like that around you? Someone who takes actions overly focused on the future and wants to be recognized by those around them.
Instead of saying 'I want to meet a cute girl,' the first thing they say is 'I want to meet a CEO.' And it doesn't matter what size the company is, as long as they are a CEO. Just by connecting with that person, they convince themselves that they are standing on a different level.
Actually, I was one of those people.
・Loves seminars by experts
・Satisfied with buying books rather than reading them
・Makes appointments via social media
・Reports on social media after meeting them → loves the 'likes'
・Prefers startups over large corporations
→Claims large corporate structures are outdated
・Talks passionately about the future
・And thinks they are different from everyone else
See? It's pathetic, right?
I was told until I was sick of hearing it, 'You're a wonderful talent,' and 'You're so high-consciousness! You have a promising future!'
However, no one ever said they wanted to work with me or asked me to join their company to run a business. In short, it was nothing more than flattery. The people who take that at face value are probably the most 'talented' at being an 'Ishiki Takai-kei.'
I started to feel that I couldn't go on like this just before I graduated from university.
As I met people who were famous in the media and on social media, I gradually realized that I was empty inside.
I was just satisfied with meeting them.
I was nothing more than a groupie.
Even though I had the chance to apply to large companies after graduation, I held a mysterious theory that relying on a company wasn't cool.
As a result, I ended up being crushed by a black company. I suppose this is what they mean when they say 'regret comes after the fact.'
What I want to say is not that you shouldn't be an 'Ishiki Takai-kei.'
Rather, 'high consciousness' is a term often used with a hint of irony, and I think it is a wonderful thing for a person to discover through their actions what kind of self they want to become.
However, it is a mistake to think that everything experts say is correct. If you believe everything, the bill will eventually come to you.
I just want you to never forget to think and act. Think about whether what this person is saying is really correct, and what you yourself think about it.
That is the advice I can give you from a former 'Ishiki Takai-kei'.
