Beast-kin of Ten Colors [Weekly Short-Short Note]

One morning, when I woke up from an uneasy dream, I found myself in bed transformed into a mascot-like dog. My entire body was covered in brown spots.

(Chiku-wan?)

Last night, ten friends from my university days gathered for a reunion. Since we all live in different places, it had been a long time since we were all together, and the topic of local mascots came up.

"When it comes to mascots, it has to be 'Funassyi'."
"No, 'Kumamon' is more famous."
"I heard the 2024 grand prize winner is 'Chiku-wan'."
"I've never heard of that."
"It seems the local specialty of Hinagu in Kumamoto is chikuwa."
"How do you read that?"
"Uh, it's 'Hinagu', apparently."
"What is this 'Kayano Kanpachiro' thing?"
"It's a fish-man, isn't it?"
"That's pretty grotesque."

When the reunion ended and we were parting ways, we met a mysterious old man. He said he would grant any wish. Someone jokingly said, "I want to become a mascot." I feel like he said, "Then today, I will turn you into a mascot based on the last thing you ate."

(That guy was eating the last piece of kanpachi.)
