Foxfire Barbecue [Weekly Short-Short Note]
My friend's range of activities expanded after they got their driver's license.
They used to go camping by train and bus, but carrying all the gear was a huge hassle, and there was a limit to how much they could bring.
However, with a car, they can pack plenty of luggage and go door-to-door to the destination.
Although there was some traffic, they managed to arrive at the campsite smoothly.
“Wow, it’s definitely cooler in the mountains.”
“Still, it’s pretty stifling with four guys.”
“At least we don’t have to worry about being polite.”
“Yeah, yeah, let’s get to work.”
They split into two groups, one for setting up the tent and one for the barbecue, and proceeded with the preparations efficiently.
“I’ll cut the ingredients, so you get the charcoal started.”
“OK. Do you have a lighter?”
“Wait, didn’t you used to smoke?”
“I’m quitting smoking now.”
To their surprise, no one had a lighter. The lantern was battery-operated, so there was nothing to start a fire with. As a tense atmosphere began to drift in, one of the friends brought over a paper lantern.
“There was a wedding procession over there, and I got them to share a flame from one of their candles.”
It felt like being bewitched by a fox.
