[Slapstick Chronicle] No errors, no warnings, just not arriving. The true identity of the Gmail external email issue

I was momentarily flustered, but after listening carefully, the cause was not “Gmail itself.”

The culprit is this

Browser-based Gmail × External Email (POP reception)

Due to Google's specification changes,

after January 2026
“External email (POP reception)” will no longer be available in the browser version of Gmail.

The target is the Gmail settings.

• “Settings” -> “See all settings” -> “Accounts and Import” -> “Check mail from other accounts”

If you have another email address displayed here, unfortunately, as it stands, you are out of luck.

Common pattern (almost always this)

• An ISP email created a long time ago

• Company or custom domain email

• POP reception set up thinking, “It would be easy if I could receive everything in Gmail!”

If POP reception is no longer an option, forwarding from the external email side to Gmail is, for now, the workaround with the fewest issues in my opinion.

• 'Who is the email company?'

• 'I feel like someone did this a long time ago'

• Not in Gmail, but
  👉 the original email is what matters

I think this is a point where people easily get confused.
