In the Season of Graduation: "The 'An, In, Un, En, On' of Life"
Time flies, and it is now March, the final month of the fiscal year, since I took over as the third-generation director from my mother (the first generation was my maternal grandmother). During this time, all the children, starting with the infants who have become steady on their feet, have learned to do things they could not do a year ago.
March is also a season of farewells. The older children will graduate and leave us. While the younger children will remain, their faces and bodies are different from a year ago; it is impossible for them to stay the same.
However, this 'change' is important. It is the same as how if a magnolia tree kept its flowers forever, it would never sprout leaves or bear fruit.
Now, I would like to take this opportunity to share with the parents of our graduating children and others the 'An, In, Un, En, On' that will be important for the children's lives ahead.
'An' stands for the 'An' in 'Annon' (peace and tranquility).
It is the 'An' in 'Anshin' (peace of mind) and 'Anzen' (safety). We want our children to be happy. It is no exaggeration to say that everyone lives for that purpose.
'In' stands for the 'In' in 'Inga' (cause and effect).
However, to build that happiness, one must make the necessary efforts. Everything has a 'cause' and a 'result.' That is why we study.
'Un' stands for the 'Un' in 'Koun/Fun' (good luck/bad luck).
That said, unexpected things can happen in life. Therefore, preparation for illness, accidents, disasters, and crime is also important.
'En' stands for the 'En' in 'Go-en' (connections/bonds).
It is not a coincidence that we have met like this. It is thanks to an invisible force working to bring us together.
'On' stands for the 'On' in 'Go-on' (gratitude/indebtedness).
We live thanks to the blessings of all other people and nature. Let us continue to live with the spirit of 'Okagesama' (thanks to you), 'Otagaisama' (we are in this together), and 'Arigato' (thank you).
To the parents of our graduates, thank you for your long support. To the parents of our current students, I look forward to our continued partnership.
