Starting a Corner Cutting Service: "Komaro-an"!
I have decided to start a corner cutting (Kadomaru) service.
Mainly when I exhibit at events, I will round the corners of planners, notebooks, and other paper items!
I'd like to summarize my activities for this "Komaro-an" (my shop name).
Round the corners, soften the mood.
I made a purchase like this the other day!

What is this, you ask? It's a large corner cutter. I've named it "Komaro-kun."
For notebooks about 1 cm thick, I can round the corners in one go.
(Please check out the cutting performance in the video below!)

The reason I bought this corner cutter is...
I love planners and notebooks with rounded corners.
Or rather, I'm so particular about it that I can't stand it if the corners aren't rounded!
However, the "Yuki Koyomi" planner I use has square corners.
It's been 5 years since I started using Yuki Koyomi.
Every year, I've been using a "Kadomaru PRO" by sun-star to punch and round the corners 2-3 pages at a time.

甲子の日&一粒万倍日の本日、いかがお過ごしですか?
私は朝からバタバタと吉日っぽいことをしてました。
大きいのは今まで通っていたジムの退会と、新しいジムの入会手続き。
それから日傘の使い始め。

It's fine for just my own Yuki Koyomi, but for the past few years, I've been serving as an ambassador, and since people buy the planner from me, I thought...
"Isn't this actually quite a hassle?
Are there any professional-grade corner cutters?"
That's how it all started.
There are various types of large corner cutters, but I thought it would be fun to offer a corner cutting service at events, so I chose a size that I can carry by myself.
Adding a touch of kindness to your planner's corners.
Now that you know KIKO loves rounded corners, I'll write about the benefits of rounding the corners of your notebook.
The corners of a notebook are parts that easily get bent, frayed, or peeled during use.
By rounding them off, they become less prone to wear and damage, allowing you to use them cleanly for a long time.
(High-quality notebooks designed for long-term use should generally have rounded corners.)
Especially in winter, has anyone ever had the experience of a notebook corner catching on a sweater fiber, and then accidentally creasing it when you lean on your elbow?
Also, it's a subtle difference, but since the corners are less likely to snag, turning pages becomes more natural.
It becomes much easier to flip through pages when you hook your finger on the corner!
Plus, it's cute! And it doesn't hurt if it hits you!
Doesn't rounding the corners just lift your spirits?
The shop name "Komaro-an"
I came up with the name Komaro-an based on the sounds of:
"Rounding the corners of the Koyomi (Yuki Koyomi)"
and
"KIKO rounds them (Kiko-maru)."
The word "An" (庵) is also read as "iori," which is said to mean a small dwelling for a hermit.
I've been exhibiting at various events since last year, and every exhibitor is so charming, and the visitors are always so excited, right!
But at Komaro-an, I hope you can relax, talk about planners and notebooks, and watch me work.
Why not round your planner's corners a little?
As for my activity schedule, I will be bringing "Komaro-kun" to the events I exhibit at for the time being.
If you bring your favorite planner or notebook, I will round the corners for you.
Regarding the corner angle, this cutter has three types of blades, but I will only be using the M size for a while.
The costs I'm considering are:
・1 notebook/planner (up to 1 cm thick, rounding 2 corners): 500 yen
・Business cards or leaflets (about 50 sheets; business cards depend on thickness, rounding 4 corners): 700 yen
However, since I've just started, the prices might not be exactly this at first as I gain experience.
(Please check the details for each event.)
[Scheduled Events]
7/13 (Sun)
Planner Summer Festival @ Kinshicho9/23 (Tue) Yuki Koyomi Fes @ Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture
December: Planner Harvest Festival (tentative)
Updated 2025/07/09
At the Planner Summer Festival on 7/13, what I will accept at Komaro-an are booklets about 1 cm thick where the fore-edge and cover are aligned.
I cannot accept hardcover books this time, even if they are less than 1 cm thick.
Please remove the cover before cutting.

Conclusion
Some of you might be wondering what on earth I've started this time (lol).
I'm already personally satisfied because I can easily and simply do the corner rounding I love! lol
But since I'm at it, I want to use "Komaro-kun" to deliver "cuteness" and "a little bit of kindness" to everyone's planners and notebooks!
With that sentiment, I am starting 'Komaro-an'.
I look forward to helping you round the corners of your precious books at event venues.
Please feel free to reach out to me!
And let's have a lively discussion about corner rounding!
