An article for someone like me who has never been serious.
For example, let's say you are driving on a road.
Suppose you are strictly following the speed limit,
driving at 60 kilometers per hour.
As you drive straight down the road, you see a light car crawling along ahead of you.
Maybe it's going about 30 kilometers per hour. The distance between it and your car shrinks rapidly, and eventually, you overtake the light car.
This car is really slow,
you think, and glance into the driver's seat.
The person driving was a young man.
Well, it's a light car, so I guess he's just not the type to drive very fast, you think as you pass him.
You definitely overtake him.
The light car driving at 30 kilometers per hour, that is.
...
Now, let's say you are driving on a road again.
Once again, you are following the speed limit,
driving at 60 kilometers per hour.
Another car appears ahead.
It is crawling along. It's going 30 kilometers per hour. You wonder what kind of car it is, and when you look, it's a Porsche.
A Porsche with the most powerful engine,
driving down the road at 30 kilometers per hour.
As you overtake it, you surely think this:
Why? It's a Porsche, what a waste.
A Porsche driving at 30 kilometers per hour.
...
Well, what I want to convey in this article is that
it is a waste not to give it your all,.
It is not just a waste, it is uncool.
I just wrote,
・A light car going 30 km/h
And,
・A Porsche going 30 km/h
Which engine are you equipped with?
A light car? Or a Porsche?
A light car? Or a Porsche?
There are people, including myself, who have little experience in
giving their all to something.
People who do not know what it means to give their all because they can manage to do anything in a laid-back, efficient way.
It seems such people are increasing.
No, it has surely been this way for a long time.
It is embarrassing to fail after giving it your all, and another reason could be that you can already imagine what kind of result awaits you after working on something.
Nevertheless, for some reason, there is a tendency to think, "I am different from others, I am special." At least I have believed that about myself since I was a child.
If someone says, "You are equipped with a light car engine, aren't you?" you get annoyed, but if someone says, "You have a Porsche engine, don't you?" you feel happy, don't you?
Then,
give it your all.
Step on the gas.
Why are you looking at the world with such a detached perspective?
If you believe the engine you're equipped with is
top-tier,
why don't you step on the gas?
Pick up speed.
Master that magnificent engine.
There is no speed limit in this world.
It's a waste if you don't give it your all.
...
Let's think about it in terms of professional baseball.
Who would cheer for a professional baseball player who is grinning even though their performance, such as batting average and home run count, is lower than the previous year?
We end up cheering for the players who, despite their struggles, repeat trial and error and work hard to "meet expectations" and "surpass their past selves."
It's that thing I wrote about sometime ago,
"we end up cheering for people who are giving it their all."
If you believe you can do it, then give it your all.
Give it your all. Give it your all until the very end.
There is nothing to be ashamed of.
If you cannot believe in yourself yet,
make the kind of effort that will allow you to believe.
Just step on the gas, no matter what.
No matter how cynical your stance, no matter how advanced technology becomes, or what people say about AI, in the end, it all comes down to guts. It comes down to giving it your all.
Do it with all your might. Keep going.
...No, I'm not in that kind of mood right now.
I understand.
In that case, let's get some good sleep.

<Afterword>
I was writing this for myself, but it's a new kind of self-help. Instead of reading a book to get inspired, you just write it yourself. Even with a compact car engine, if you run at full throttle, you might just beat a Porsche. Thank you for reading until the end.
