[Childcare Record] I went to the 18-month health checkup
Hello everyone.
The hot days are continuing, aren't they? Let's get through this summer by remembering to stay hydrated and replenish salt to avoid heatstroke!
Well, this time it's a record of our childcare at home.
As the title says, I went to the 18-month health checkup the other day.
Actually, I was supposed to have it last month, but my child caught hand, foot, and mouth disease, which was going around at the time, so we had to change the date and were finally able to have the checkup.
I had gotten information beforehand on social media about what it would be like, but parents get more nervous than the children, don't they...
I dropped my child off at daycare in the morning and went to the checkup in the afternoon.
At first, I talked to the person in charge based on the questionnaire I filled out beforehand, and then there was a check to see if my child could point at things while looking at a paper with illustrations of dogs and other things.
...However, my child, who had been chatting happily until just a moment ago, switched on their shyness the moment they saw the person in charge!
They didn't say a word and didn't point at anything.
They just gave a little grin to the person in charge, as if to try smiling a bit.
I wish they didn't inherit my shyness... haha.
I explained while feeling flustered, saying, "They understand at home, though..."
Even after that, while I was talking with the person in charge, my child said "woof woof" in a small voice or pointed at different places...
Yeah, you're doing your best! Good job, good job! I thought to myself.
The result was that they said, "It seems like they understand," and we successfully cleared the pointing check. Phew.
Next was the triple check: physical measurements, a medical examination, and a dental checkup.
My child, now in just a diaper, saw the surroundings and went back into nervous mode.
They cried their eyes out during the physical measurements, so I had to hold them while they were weighed, which meant my weight was measured too. Haha.
Their height is a little below average compared to their peers, but I was relieved to see they are growing steadily compared to last time.
They cried their eyes out throughout both the medical examination and the dental checkup.
The doctor said to them, "You have a loud voice! You could be a singer!" and I couldn't help but laugh.
After the checkup, there was a toothbrushing lecture.
They cried their eyes out here too.
I hadn't been using a finishing toothbrush, so I thought I would buy one now.
Finally, I heard the results of the checkup, and that was the end of our 18-month checkup.
I've seen on social media that some places have children stack blocks or draw pictures, so I was a little let down, thinking, is this really the end?
Anyway, there were no problems with the medical or dental checkups.
Nothing in particular was pointed out, but I talked to the teacher from the support division about things I was personally concerned about.
Things like throwing objects and food on the floor, and occasionally biting Mom and Dad's arms.
When I consulted about these, they kindly taught me how to deal with them, saying, "These are common things at this age."
Furthermore, the teacher said to me, "You are really doing your best, working full-time while raising a child and doing housework."
That one sentence made me so happy that I almost burst into tears.
Recently, I've been getting irritated from fatigue, and there are days when I treat my child harshly.
Encouraged by these words, I hope that both my child and I can grow one step at a time at our own pace while gradually changing our mindset.
18-month checkup, you really did your best.
Let's continue to laugh a lot and grow a lot together.
