Moments that make me think 'That's nice': Wonderful discoveries in daily life ②
I recently posted an article titled 'Moments that make me think "That's nice": Wonderful discoveries in daily life'.
This is the second installment. I remembered some events that made me think 'That's nice,' so I'd like to share them with you.
Kind words from elementary school students

For a while, I was trying out a second job. At the time, I was working part-time delivering flyers. I would stuff thousands of flyers into my backpack and deliver them to houses and apartment buildings, but the weight was incredible! (laughs). On top of that, I walked quite a distance. I once measured it with a pedometer and found I had walked 43,000 steps. Man, it was heavy and involved a lot of walking (laughs).
After delivering them for several days in a row, my feet would start to hurt. One day, the pain in my feet was so bad that I sat down on the sidewalk to rest. Then, some elementary school boys nearby approached me looking concerned and asked, 'Are you okay, mister?' I replied, 'Yeah, I'm fine!' The boys looked relieved and walked away.
This might be a trivial event, but it made me very happy. Their kindness still remains in my heart today. I'm sure they have grown into fine adults by now. My feeling of gratitude for that moment hasn't changed.
The kindness shown by junior high school students

This episode is also something I witnessed while working that flyer delivery job, and it was a heartwarming sight. Several junior high school boys and girls were holding a cat in front of a house and ringing the doorbell. 'Is this cat yours?' they asked, looking worried. They probably found the cat outside and thought, 'This might be a neighbor's cat,' so they visited that house.
Perhaps the cat was meowing. Seeing that, I think the students felt they 'had to do something' and visited the house. They might have even been visiting house after house in the neighborhood.
When you reach junior high school, competition in studies and various other things intensifies, and it's a time when you see competition among friends. Sometimes that can lead to bullying or one-upmanship. That's how it was when I think back to when I was in junior high. However, those kids had kindness even in that environment. It made me feel that the world isn't such a bad place after all.
Kindness found on the train

On my way home from a work-related drinking party, I had drunk quite a bit and was feeling pretty tipsy. On the train ride home, I was barely able to stand while holding onto a strap, and my head was bobbing up and down (laughs). Then, a woman sitting in front of me asked, 'Are you okay? Would you like to switch seats?' I replied, 'I'm fine, thank you,' but I was grateful for her kindness. I felt that there are people who are so kind even to strangers, and I was very happy for her consideration in offering me her seat.
Wonderful gifts hidden in daily life

This time, I talked about the kindness I received from others, such as the heartwarming words from elementary school students and the kind offer from a woman on the train.
Writing while looking back on moments in daily life that make me think 'That's nice' like this makes me feel calm. I would like to continue recording such heartwarming moments whenever I remember them or encounter new ones.
