First of all, what does 'Romance and the Abacus' mean?

The purpose of this European trip consists of two seemingly contradictory elements: 'Romance' and the 'Abacus'.

1. 'Romance': Pursuing what I wanted to do in Europe

One year after my mother's passing. Having overcome my grief, what I sought next was the fulfillment of my heart to satisfy my
sensibilities. Walking through the
Grand Place in Brussels, reuniting with an old friend in Mallorca, and searching for the station that served as the setting for a novel. It was a 'selfish trip of my own' where I packed in all the events I had 'wanted to do in Europe for a long time'.

2. 'Abacus': Visa scouting for living abroad
On the other hand, I seriously faced real-world challenges. I researched visas for relocating abroad using the new 'digital nomad' work style. And, from my perspective as an FP (Financial Planner), I
deeply reflected on the expenses of this trip at every turn. I truly, truly felt the truth of the golden rule,
'The hardest part about dealing with money is how to spend it'.

I intend for this book to propose a new style of travel for those in their late 40s, where the 'Romance' of beautiful travel memories intersects with the raw 'Abacus' records regarding visas and money.

Real information called 'Abacus Columns' that might be more useful than the main diary entries

In this book, I have disclosed, as much as possible, the first-hand information and gut feelings I gained by investing my time and money that cannot be obtained through internet searches alone.

While the content is primarily a travel diary,, as an 'Abacus Column', I also provide travel tips and information that may be useful for immigration preparation.
