Starting exciting maintenance work! (3)
It has been over 10 years since I moved to the Miura Peninsula. Although creating a satoyama garden has been a process of trial and error, I have come to truly enjoy living alongside plants and animals.
Recently, through a stroke of luck, I have become involved with a green space near my home (on the adjacent property, about 15 seconds away on foot). There is also an abandoned house covered in bamboo grass on the property. The prospect of maintaining a green space that has been left untouched for decades is nothing but exciting. It is even more rewarding because I will be doing everything by hand without using any power tools.
Last time (April 19th), I introduced a method for felling trees by shifting their center of gravity.

Finally, I am entering the bamboo grove

I have tidied up a section using the "Kanoko-gaki" (fawn fence) that I devised and named myself.
The durability of this fence is excellent, lasting about 15 to 20 years.
The only tools used are a bamboo pole, pliers, a saw, and wire. I am frequently asked by the government to conduct training on how to build them for specific landscaping and civil engineering companies within Kanagawa Prefecture.
Outside of Kanagawa Prefecture, I have conducted training in Shizuoka Prefecture with very good results.

Since the Kanoko-gaki treats unnecessary bamboo on the spot, there is no need to carry the felled bamboo away.
It is also highly effective for retaining soil on slopes, so it helps prevent landslides.
As it is a large bamboo grove, I plan to take my time with it.
I am grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the local community in such a fun way.
