A Story So Strange It Must Be True

While I was working, a memory from the past suddenly came back to me for some reason. It was about my father.
My father had worked for a construction company for a long time, and when I was around high school age, he started his own company called XX Kensou. To commemorate this, he held a small party at our house, inviting his old colleagues. I was forced to participate, and once things had warmed up, my father said he had something he wanted to give everyone and handed out calendars with his company's name on them to all his colleagues.
He had a look on his face that seemed to say, 'Well, take a look,' and the moment one of his colleagues looked at it, the man's face stiffened.
My father, who couldn't read the room, said, 'It's a well-made calendar, isn't it? Everyone, take a look,' and showed it to everyone.


It was a nude calendar of adult film actresses.

My younger sister hurried back to her room.
The people who had attended as a couple tried not to make eye contact with my father.
Everyone had given up on even offering a bitter smile and was just dumbfounded.
I think that was the only time it was a blessing for my father that my mother was no longer around.

As for me, I looked back on my life and felt angry thinking that this was the man who had told me, 'If you play games all the time, you'll get stupid,' destroyed my games, and banned me from watching variety shows and anime entirely. I just said, 'Are you an idiot?' and went back to my room.

The next day, for some reason, the memory of the previous day had completely vanished. Of course, it wasn't a dream. It was reality. As proof, the leftover nude calendars were in a cardboard box. Naturally, my sister and I completely ignored them.

Incredibly, I had completely forgotten about this story, which I really have to tell someone, until just now.

Perhaps I was so shocked by my strict father exposing such an outrageous disgrace that I blocked it out. I have never even talked about it with my sister once. Of course, 20 years have passed since then, and I have never told anyone that story.
