[Baking] Rice Cooker Apple Steamed Cake
Following last month, my son asked again to "make steamed bread," so
this time we changed things up a bit and
made a rice cooker apple steamed cake🍎
[Ingredients]
■ Stewed apples
・1 apple
・3 tbsp sugar
・Butter (as needed)
■ Cake batter
・200g pancake mix
・1 egg
・30g sugar
・160cc milk
・1 tbsp vegetable oil
※I used this recipeas a reference, but changed some of the ingredients.
Caramelize the apples in a frying pan.

Lightly grease the rice cooker with vegetable oil,
arrange the stewed apples in a radial pattern, and pour in the syrup.

I asked my son to handle making the batter.

We measured and added the ingredients together, then mixed it all up with a whisk.

Once mixed, pour the batter into the rice cooker.

Cook in the rice cooker for about 45 minutes and it's done!
Since the stewed apples are sweet, I kept the batter less sweet, making it easy to eat.

My son seemed a bit unsatisfied this time because the batter-making process was so simple.
When I told him, "We're going to make it in the rice cooker,"
his face lit up
and he was surprised, saying,
"Wait! You can make it in a rice cooker!?"
He seemed so happy to press the rice cooker button and hear the sound when it finished so he could open the lid.
Since we almost always use the oven range, he seemed to find this different method refreshing.
We don't own a steamer in our house,
but for steamed bread to eat as a family, a frying pan or rice cooker was plenty♪

By the way.
Did you know how many varieties of apples there are in Japan?
According to the article above, there are about 15,000 varieties worldwide and about 2,000 in Japan.
Among them, the apple best suited for baking isKogyoku (Jonathan).
They are preferred for baking because they are tart, have firm flesh, and don't easily lose their shape when cooked.
This time I usedSun Fujiapples that were given to us, but
they had a great balance of sweetness and tartness, and were delicious both eaten as-is and used in the cake.
Next time I buy apples, I'll be sure to pay attention to the variety when I pick them out♪
Thank you very much for reading until the end.
